I go to a large non denominational church. But....we are a bible based church 100%. My senior pastor looks NOTHING like the meme you posted (he is like mid 50s and wears button downs and khakis and lives very modestly) I feel like our church is very welcoming to others but we also talk the truths in the Bible. That being a Christian is hard and that you aren't guaranteed an easy walk on this side of Heaven. In fact...you WILL 100% face challenges and hardships in life. My pastor does nothing to sugar coat this in his sermons.

I remember some of the older pearl clutching types got upset when they found out the pastor had invited a lesbian woman seeking God to one of our sermons. He received a lot of angry emails and at a later sermon he addressed it and basically said he stands by his decision. We are not to turn away someone seeking God. Would you tell someone they can't join Weight Watchers until they have lost all the weight? Would you tell an alcoholic they can't go to AA until they have been sober for at least a year?

for the most part. they annoy me so much

there are some very specific positive uses for them that i've seen, like this one local church who helps drug addicts begin that initial process of starting over and re-gaining some self confidence in a supportive community. but that's not really a CHURCH, but i give them respect. they do help feed the homeless and stuff, too.

the problem is, even in that sort of specific instance, they become a crutch for those people. it's almost like a cult in some ways. again, that's the problem with removing personal accountability and inventory from religion.

So are you one of those folks that thinks we should go back to how the 50s were?

The same decade where black people couldn't enjoy the same things as white people? Where segregation was still a normal thing and white people actually thought a decent thing? Where an interracial couple could never be seen in public?

You’re one ridiculous SJW. Get out of here with the histrionics. I made an analogy about how things were in the 50s in regards to unwed pregnancy.

Go be a whore, sleep around, get pregnant out of wedlock. I’m not stopping you. Still, it’s all sin. I’m gonna call a spade a spade regardless of your feelings.

Apparently his members are condoning sin and telling everyone it’s OK.

Let’s don’t even get started on the plethora of scriptures that states if a member (believer) be in sin that you should not strive (hang out) with them and rebuke them.

Let’s also not discuss how the Bible says you shouldn’t partake with those lost in sin.

But that’s all New Testament discussions people like Nurse don’t want to have. They guise love with acceptance of sin. There is a way to love someone and still hold them accountable.

The Bible actually teaches holding them accountable is the greatest love. That’s why those who love Him love his rebuke.

The roots of this go much farther back than 1973

Absolutely! I could have added the invention of Artificial Birth Control (i.e. the Pill) provided married couples a way in which to space the birth of children. Ultimately the pill was made available to all women.....married or not. The effect of which was to create the "Sexual Revolution" of the sixties and beyond. Women debauched, forgot to take their Birth Control Pill (BCP), got pregnant and had an abortion. Along came an explosion in STD's and the AIDS epidemic. Last time I checked CDC statistics revealed nearly one third of Americans are infected with some type of STD.

The invention of the BCP was the slippery slope that contributed to the "slow burn" destruction of the traditional family. I mean we could go all the way back to the Woodrow Wilson era to identify the factors in the decline, I'm just focusing on the decades in my lifetime.

Like I said we stand on the prescipice of destruction. November 3, 2020 will decide it all.

It provides purpose, it’s a social cause. Once upon a time these people would have been devoutly religious instead. It’s also driven by envy, and a desire to supplant the people who have more, either power, money, or both.

I like the lower class better than the upper middle class.

Spot-on.
Paul VI was right on the money in Humane Vitae when he described the societal consequences and the developments we would see.

Yep, the oppertunist....money changers. Folks like Joel Osteen et al. You know.....the prosperity gospel frauds.

Scripture prophesized about these charlatans.......

"The time will surely come, when men will grow tired of sound doctrine, always itching to hear something fresh; and so they will provide themselves with a continuous succession of new teachers, as the whim takes them, turning a deaf ear to the truth" - 2 Timothy 4:3-4

"Makin' money in the service of the Lord." - Delmar O'Donnell (O'Brother, Where Art Thou)
