Why should the unemployed get more $ than a essential worker?

Essential workers are risking their lives being at work. Why are they getting paid less than someone sitting at home? The $600 unemployment bonus on top of the unemployment pay is ridiculous. They get to sit at home and have less chance to get sick. People working are making less to go to work every day, have to find sitters because daycares are closed, and only get a couple extra bucks an hour for hazordous pay.

WTF? My wife and I both got raises for this. I would strongly consider looking elsewhere after this shite is over.

The working man always gets fricked. You should know that by now

While some "essential" workers like the cashier at the grocery may be making less than an unemployed accountant, the "essential" worker you describe needs no skills.

I’ve still got my job. I just have to work it from home.
Let’s be real. I’m not braving the elements. Not many folks in south la get paid what I do to sit in their house and rummage around on the computer for next two months. I can’t complain.

Been in the office every day during this and I’m not getting a cent more than I was before.

It shouldn't be an either/or question.
If the government is going to demand that 50-75% of the country stays at home and does not work it hardly stops the fact that those people still have bills to pay and food to buy.
I do agree that shareholders/CEOs etc should certainly be kicking down "hazard pay" to all their employees.
The EITHER/OR way you pose this just pits worker VS worker (which is the exact dynamic that keeps screwing over working people).

That’s not why it bothers some people it’s because someone may be getting what someone was not. Also health insurance comes into play since we couldn’t go door to door doing a means test and just chose to help the bucket who needs help. Conversely why should a now unemployed professional who make 120k a year now be paid the same as a waitress?

When the government gets involved, there are always unintended consequences. There's no way around it.
This whole shutdown is a consequence of the idea people now have that government is responsible for taking care of us. With responsibility comes rights. The government has the "right" to jeapordize everyones livelihoods, because so much of society has ceded to the government the responsibility to take care of us.
This is the Galaxy brain reason for not wanting socialized medicine. I don't really want poor people to not have access to healthcare as some sort of punishment for not being successful. I just don't want some bureaucrat somewhere dictating people's diets, reproductive choices, etc etc, and all of that is the inescapable eventual result of government "providing" healthcare.
Eta I would much rather them figure out some other way to provide healthcare to the "less fortunate", but to the progressives, that's not as good because they believe they need the control over everyone to ensure progress.

Because the subtleties of the English language elude you... or... the simple god damned rules.
