Worked well for the French in 1793 (or whenever)...
/sarcasm

Yes, a vast majority of Americans were openly racist, INCLUDING the president who gave us the largest welfare expansion in the history of the world.

Who cares. Get over it. I’m sick applying today’s misguided and ill informed standards to past historical figures.

That’s the whole point of history. You can move FORWARD while charting your progress against the record of the past. Otherwise, we wouldn’t even know where we currently stand.

Leave history in the past. That’s precisely its role. Erasing it is counterproductive.

We’ve been sanding and varnishing history for as long as civilization has stood.

This post reeks of white privilege. The concept of starting over without having to deal with the pains and horrors of past lived experiences is one only privileged white people can create. You have been canceled, now go wash the feet of POC as atonement.

We'll also need new days of the week. Norse gods don't cut it.

Probably new months too. Augustus Caesar was no friend of the movement.

I love the self righteous folks saying "F that guy with a rusty shovel" using views of today to judge quotes and views of the past. It was a WAYYY different time in the 60's and 70's.

The Khmer Rouge did this when they started their transformational society and vowed to change the very NATURE of human beings. Sadly, their nature was changed by having The State “ progress “ them from alive to deceased. Just 2 million of the 100 million the Communists murdered in the 20th century. Fortunately , nothing like that could ever happen here. We’re different.

Because those portions of society that are in the process of changing these many things, want to continue to remember the things that they use as excuses for themselves.

In my mind, you either erase all of it or erase none of it. Pretty tough to fairly pick and choose.

Erase NONE of it. There's a lot that has been done wrong and those things need to be remembered.

If you don't have history then we are doomed. Look back at every major civilizations that collapsed. If we don't have history and don't teach it. We will repeat it. History teaches us on how not to act, and how to move forward in a socicity!!

I love our history.

It has character and shows that we can survive.

If a certain race wants to change their direction, then hitch up their boots and do it.

The is no better Country in the world to get ahead in.

Asians, Hispanics and Arabs dont look for excuses in the day and age, they get it done. They open small businesses and spend 20 hours a day making it a success.

No reason other people can't do it.

What puzzles me is how a generation with so much information at their finger tips can become this lacking in wisdom so as to be completely incapable of having any adult perspective whatsoever. They know so much that just isn’t true, and have no interest in being right, just winning an argument, but they rarely if ever do that even. The actions and mentality of children, they behave like them, reason like them, and do the things that children do at ages they should be well past that kind of stuff, forever stunted in their growth as human beings. They have become servants to collective thinking, yet have more tools than anyone in history to be able to formulate their own intelligent and well conceived thoughts on matters, yet choose instead to follow because following is easier than being right. They are driven by FEAR... Hell, our entire society seems to be driven by fear these days.

We are headed that way

Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.

Have you noticed the attention span gap between your generation and this generation? We read books as kids- they read social media. We sat in theaters and watched movies. They watch on tablets in fits and starts. They just approach life less mindfully and deliberately then we did because they can. We had no choice, right?

Here is what I see , This generation masters very little but dabbles around the edges of EVERYTHING . Whereas you might have deferred on a variety of topics when you were young, they don’t even understand the concept. They have been taught to EMOTE about any and every topic as if they are experts. And if you even suggest they slow down and read some history and inform themselves, they shudder at the ridiculousness of the idea.

The social science on current anxiety levels of young people paints a depressing picture. Things are moving too fast and people are isolated from other people and the natural world. The people who are thriving ( INCLUDING those younger people who have opted out of all this social media crap) are people who understand the value of slowing things down, going outdoors, having long conversations, being grateful and humble etc. Of course if you suggest this to the anxious and narcissistic, it sets them off even worse.
