Grew up outside NYC. Had a little league teammate whose father and uncle were in the mafia. There was an Oldsmobile dealership that was a well known to be owned by the mafia

I think it's also some kind of hazing ritual for French Quarter bar employees to get convinced that they're working for the mob, because they all have their bullshite stories.

I'm from south of BR originally. Everybody claims to know someone who had a van just show up and people start repairing some type property in Plaquemine, White Castle, etc.
