The ghost of Huey Long still haunts Louisiana.

Oldmanbeasley has sent several emails to the state with a two part plan to fix the state. First, bring in the Ghostbusters to get rid of Huey Long and his goon ghost squad. Second, import some mountains.

Are we supposed to pretend that if we magically changed history to have never granted so much ITEP exemptions, that all of those business would still be here just happily paying more taxes?

Therein lies the logical leap.

The argument would be more sound if we weren't bordered by 2 states who are also welcoming to industry for jobs, who also have ports and access to the gulf.

Majority of Alabama values sports and yet the state is still doing well economically.

now we're getting off base/stuck in the Louisiana TD bubble.

Louisiana still has a higher per capita gdp and household income than Alabama, despite their recent gains and our recent losses.

leadership is a reflection of the people

No that’s not true. If anything the people are reflection of leadership. There’s a lot is big business people that buy failing business and the first there they do is fire the leaders at the top and train the people better at the bottom. They explain that the problem is not the people but poor leadership.

Once again, who said they never should have been granted? Who made that suggestion? It's like there is no arguing points without extremis.

Why would you say no incentive? Who said no incentive? There is a lot of space between no incentive and a better deal for the state than is being offered now.

I mean it took that large of an incentive to get the plant to open in the literal bumfrickiest part of the US.

I'm not trying to hate on Cameron but there is NOTHING down there anymore after Rita and Laura, other than these LNG export terminals. And we have to compete with SETX for these projects, and SETX has a LOT more to offer by itself.

Let's just be honest, that's exactly what it is.

The fact that Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas secured car manufacturing plants in the last 25 years while Louisiana did not tells you what an utter shithole this state is.

Many posters here use their red tinted, Republicans are the only party I suppor, glasses when commenting about the state of the state. They blame Democrats and Huey Long for everything. They tend to forget that the legislature has been controlled by the Republicans for the last 20 years or so. They also blame only Democrat governors while ignoring Republican saviors like Jindal.

They shouldn't.

The real reason is that we have a large percentage of people who are lazy and poorly educated. They have no desire to work or better themselves.

No elected official, from either party, is going to instill initiative.

Jon Bel running the State

Latyoa and her failed predecessors in N.O.

Broome in BR

Lowest expectations of quality from tax paid government services

Parents who don't care about their kids education creating kids who won't care about their kid's education and that never ending cycle.

The culture of too many in the population expecting the government to care for their needs

But by all means, let's single out ITEP as the reason why La stays poor.

I trust your numbers are correct but per capita GDP doesn't equal quality of life. I suspect that Louisiana is propped up by a major city and petrochem. Because I've been through both dozens of times and I really enjoy a lot of Alabama. I can't think of one place I've been in Louisiana that I would really want to spend time in.
