The biggest issue with the future bucc-ees at Louisiana Ave is location and staff.

Location is a hub for crime and one of the worst exits in Lafayette off I-10. Logistically it'll also be a nightmare.

Staffing, if they hire the right people it'll be fine. If they hire the staff from whataburger next door or that awful truck stop, it'll close in a year.

I don't know what you guys are doing when ya'll stop at Buc-ee's, but I've never had to wait in long lines. I work in Texas, and I've been to 3 different locations, always in and out, just like any other gas station. I stop in Terrell every trip going and coming from work never had a problem waiting.

They're most likely basing this off the location outside of Mobile, AL. The parking lot is a shitshow year round getting in and out of it. They way under estimated the amount of business that location would get

All of the other locations that I've been to in TX, TN & northern AL have flowed well and never been a problem

In fairness, every exit off i-10 in Lafayette is in a shitty area of town

You are right, it will be a nightmare. That exit is a total mess, definitely can't handle anymore traffic. I think the Satsuma exit would be a great spot!

A contact that works at Buccees on the expansion team directly told me state officials were trying to dictate specific contractors to use as well.

I think you have your exits confused, there’s no truck stop or whataburger at Louisiana ave. It is on the north side but all the exits are

They have over 500 parking spots, not including the lot across the road for employees/ overflow or the gas pumps. And on a typical summer day its jammed packed for 12 hours of that day. Just insane.

"I’ll never understand the hold this gas station has on people."

I used to share this same sentiment until I was driving back home from Atlanta after the snow storm this year and the gf and I decided to stop at one just outside of Birmingham. Due to the weather the place was empty. Parked up front. Bathrooms were spotless. Brisket sandwich 8/10. Picked up a few gifts for daughters and granddaughter. In and out in about 25 minutes. Could've spent a lot longer looking around, but we needed to get back on the road. I wouldn't drive out of my way for one, but as far as gas stations go, it's pretty cool.

Because Louisiana sucks and is not worthy of a Bucc-ees.

The interstates are definitely too ducked up to have a anything cool like that

Cost to build buccees in Mississippi and Alabama;

Construction cost, land cost, states help build off ramp etc

Cost in Louisiana.

Bribes to local officials
Bribes to state officials
Cost of hiring politicians cousins and ghost companies

Then construction cost etc

Stopping at that place adds a minimum 45 minutes to a drive.

I have never spent 45 minutes in a Buccees. I am usually in and out in under 15 minutes...gas, bathroom, coffee, food, gone. If it takes you 45 minutes thats a you problem, not a Buccees problem.

The one at the gulf shores exit is always busy, but it was ridiculous this past weekend. I told my wife that I want to stop at the new on the way back but I’m afraid to now lol

Buccees is the Chic-Fil-a of gas stations. Don't let the crowds scare you, it flows pretty quick.

I'm thinking of St. Mary then.

They're putting it at St. Mary right?

I feel like a Louisiana location would absolutely ruin the employee culture. Some of the small town Buc-ee's on the way to the East coast are literally the 180 degree polar opposite of how Popeyes' employees behave.

Everyone is smiling, friendly and helpful. It doesn't seem like the employees hate everyone and are about to get into a gunfight in the kitchen, screaming and yelling constantly. The bathrooms aren't a biohazard. It doesn't consistently take 25-30 minutes to get a small single food order when there is only one other customer in line in front of you.

The further Buc-ee's gets away from any Louisiana city center, the better of a chance they have at real long term success.

Same. The one time I've been it was so crowded it wasn't worth the trouble. Last time I passed by the one on the way to the beach my wife asked me to stop and I said hell no. Place was a total zoo.

Yeah but a good zoo.
