All my tech friends who have 5+ years of programming experience now suddenly can't find work. They're now reduced to working for Best Buy or Starbucks while going on 5+ rounds of interviews.

All around analysts are simply doing your buddies jobs with the help of AI and common sense..

Gone are the days where they thought they were the only ones who knew how to if/and/or

FYI, we also tell the bosses that we will take 25% of the pay they were going to give your buddies...ALSO, we get to work remotely and most of the time, literally anywhere that has decent internet

They can’t find jobs because so many of the larger companies have been laying people off since Q1 of this year.

As a result, you have a more saturated talent pool of workers needing work.

On the flip side, everyone is tightening up their spending, both consumer and companies. This is resulting in less jobs.

I'd expand it to professional/B2B services organizations more broadly, from what I'm seeing and hearing.

There are an abundance of cyber jobs. Tell them to get a certification.

I work in IT in Pittsburgh. I have applied to 2-3 thousand jobs over the last seven years that would be a step up from my Tier 2 Desktop Support. I got lots of interviews but no offers.

You are spot on. Tech is a constant cycle of growth and profit. When the economy is good, its growth at all costs. Hire everyone, pay them whatever, gain as many customers as you can. When the economy heads south, freeze everything, cut to the bone and squeeze every drop you can out of whoever is left.

Was hard for me to find a college educated, grass grower to move to Fort Lauderdale for 60k/yr, free apartment(2miles from the beach), cell phone, gas and lunch at work.

Daughter graduated this Spring from one of the top tier SEC schools in electrical engineering. She and her classmates were well into double digits of resumes submitted before she got a job, some of her friends are still looking. 3.3 GPA, decent activities & volunteer work, won a performance award at the only internship she had.

Part of it was figuring out the applicant tracking system BS (Resume Worded for the win) but just as much was so many places are either not hiring despite postings or they only want people with 3-5 years experience for "entry level" (their term, not mine) positions.

This country has been relentlessly importing Indians for IT jobs, and they work at a discounted rate and tolerate a lot of bullshite. It has changed communities across the country for the worse, in terms of jobs being available in those fields for Americans.

Two of my nephews have been looking for work, too. They are gonna have to change their goals.

Standard bullshite for the likes of Apple and Nvidia. Most DoD cleared type shite is max 2 interviews. Wife works as a recruiter, says this time of year is always rough....this year a little more so. But there is about to be a lot of DOD work opening up starting at the end of July.

Also in the non cleared space, there is a lot of competition from Indians H1B, green cards, etc. A lot of recruiting shops are Indian owned and they cater very much to people from the Sub Continent

As someone in the industry any engineer interviewing at a FANNG or Fortune 500 it is minimum 4-5 interviews. Most other lower engineer jobs expect at least 3.
