Why is Luke warm beer so much more difficult to drink than ice cold beer?

I stop by the store every night to get a 4 pack of beer to drink after work and when the beer guy just left after stocking the cooler, the beer is always a little warmer
I’ll drink my first beer because the beer is not ice cold and I almost dry heave vomit.
If the beer is freezing cold.. I can chug the hell out of it.
When I am in the cooler putting my hands on the different beer, it’s hard to tell if they are really cold or not until I get home.
I’ll take a sip of the The luke warm beer and I just want to gag.

Your just not a real beer drinker. For people that like a good beer it’s very good a little bit on the warm side. I can drink a room temp beer and if it’s a good beer it’s just fine with me.

I've trained myself to just drink carbonated water instead of beer/soda. Cold and bubbly it goes down just as well as those drinks.

I don’t care if it’s cold or warm I just plant it in the snow bank outside my igloo until my core temperature is high enough to start breathing again

4 pack? New one on me. A little common sense would direct you to have at least 1 extra beer in the fridge when you got home ensuring that first beer was cold. Unless of course you are drinking and driving which I suspect.

I put room temp beer in the freezer for half an hour or so to make it cold when I get home. Works out perfectly for me

it's because beer is nasty, really.
the molecules you sense as smell are called esters. thiols, terpenes, etc. the warmer they are the more volatile, making it easier for you to sense their presence. the colder, the less volatile and more difficult to detect.
beer has so many powerful aroma compounds that, when fully released is rarely a pleasant experience.
this is also but one reason why wine is superior to beer, you can drink and enjoy at any temp
