Neither one of us has a problem with tilapia

I guess you have fresh Halibut flown in from Alaska when you want fish.

Not a single girl I've ever dated could cook.

Fiancé can't boil water without screwing it up but doesn't really matter. I cook everyday, enjoy it, and I'm pretty damn good.

cooking is easy, cooking good isn't

Cooking is following directions. If you can follow directions, you can cook. That being said, if you don't have a foundation in basic cooking techniques, and don't practice them, it's going to seem like mad skills to make food taste really good and not like a failed science experiment. That's what is missing, and semi homemade nonsense cooking only further enables that.

The basics of cooking is like building a house. You start with a foundation, and you build upon that in stages. If you don't get the foundation right, the rest is screwed, and like a house, it's the details that make it stand out, in cooking, the details being your ingredients and execution.

Researching new recipes, preferably of Latino origin.

BTW very easy recipe and tastes amazing: Sister Fatima Chicken and Peanut Butter Stew. John Folse made it on whichever news show in Baton Rougr that has a cooking segment. Peanut Butter (not Skippy or Peter Pan, the real unadulterated stuff) is used as a thickening agent. This is actually a heart healthy recipe. Search it out, I promise you won't be sorry.

1. High Schools don't teach real skills any more. All of the focus is placed on preparing kids for college and passing standardized tests so home ec and shop aren't taught so much any more.

2. Pretty girls don't need to cook to find a man, they don't need to have a great personality, they don't need to really dress well (see Sorority girls), they don't need to have any discernible skills. They just need to be pretty.

3. Their mothers didn't have time to cook because they were too busy working to provide a second income for the family. Therefor, they ate out more or made "instant" dinners more often than their baby boomer and greatest generation grandmothers did. Because the mom didn't have time to cook, she never honed in her cooking skills or passed them on to the next generation.

4. Rule of thumb: among middle-upper middle class girls, the uglier they are, the more domestic skills they will have. The pretty ones don't need to be skilled to find a husband, but the meh girls will find something to help their case. They may learn to knit and sew, garden, cook, make arts and crafts, have musical talent, be able to fix stuff, ect. The bottom line in this category is if you want a quality "wife material" girl, your best bet is to date girls that were wall flowers or fat in high school.

If you try hard you can find a girl from a good family whose parents worked 2 jobs and still found time to cook and spend time with them. But for the most part i agree with this. It is because parents are getting worse and lazier which is growing exponentially.

While this is true there are pretty girls out there who are motivated and driven to do things well. Go find one of them. Dont settle for Egg. or Anabelle. Because she's the bell of the ball

My point.. Thank you. Cooking has become like magic skills to society.

John Besh isn't Harry fricking Potter. He can just follow directions and has knowledge of basic techniques. Time in the kitchen and learning those skills has developed over the years to make him a very knowledgable and creative chef. However, it all starts with following fricking directions, and leaning basic techniques.

The real truth....

People are fricking LAZY and so it's easier to excuse cooking as magical and beyond their reach than to apply themselves to its practice. To a large extent, our society has built that in people. We allow it to continue though through our laziness.
