Cooking for 4 people, yes it is much easier and cheaper than going to mcdonalds. Cooking for 1 person, you have to have a solid plan to keep the cost down and avoid spoil.

Eh idk.

I go grocery shopping one day each week and buy enough for the week to meal prep.

I usually get a high protein oatmeal for breakfast each morning which is around $7 for the week

Then for lunch/supper I either get a 5 pound pack of chicken for $10-$12 or a couple pounds of lean ground turkey which is a little more expensive but easier to prep.

In total my 3 meals for each day in a week come out to around $40-$45. Then of course I add snacks like greek yogurt, fruit etc

But compare that to fast food, its really not much more expensive. I got a meal at Sonic last week and it ran me $12 for a combo

I don't believe the cost of food is a factor. I believe some people are just lazy and it's easier to run by McDonalds then it is to buy the stuff to prepare hamburger and french fries for the family at home, and thus you are going to get a less healthy option.

Unhealthy food is cheaper and easier to obtain and doesn’t take time away from your day to cook

Wrong. Factor in the time and money it takes to make 1 trip to the grocery store in a week and spend a couple hours prepping to have all of your meals instantly available at a moments notice for the next seven days.

Compare that tome to making 14-21 trips or more per week for separate meals on top of cost.

Tell me what takes less time

That's $45/21 meals = $2.14 average meal cost.

If that's accurate, that's outstanding. My target is $3.50/meal.

interestingly i saw fewer than a dozen fatasses in boston & providence over 4 days this weekend. clearly its a southern/midwestern epidemic but the NE and the Rockies/PNW appear to have their shite together

It is 100% more prevalent in the South for sure. Can't speak for the midwest but after living in L.A. for the past year I see far fewer obese people and people here are overall healthier in what they eat, exercise, etc. Just a different lifestyle than what we are used to in the South.

I am sure the weather plays a small roll because the weather here is great pretty much year around so people can have a much more active lifestyle. In the South it rains or is too GD hot to do much outside of a few months per year.

I just landed in DFW on my way to Lake Chuck for Thanksgiving and every time I come into DFW I can see the difference in the amount of people that are obese vs L.A.

Bowling Green, Kentucky was the fattest place I've ever been to in my life.

Not only was everyone fat... but there were some of the fattest people I've ever seen in my life there.

So you're saying that by eating 5000 cal/day you have put on likely 10-15 pounds in fat over....what, probably 3 months? And that is undoubtedly while having a vigorous exercise routine.

And in the same breath, you're trying to argue that 4000 cal/day isn't bad? That 4000 cal/day does not contribute to being a fat arse?

Keep that routine up for 2 or 3 years. And cut back on the exercising (almost entirely, to match most of America). Then tell me that's healthy.

Back in the day the hungry skeletons couldn’t go out ranging for mammoth like the big baws could so they had to pick berries with the women

It’s just natural selection at work
