The ESPN ship is sinking and it’s because they ran off Gen X and the boomers.
I know you know they want 18-49 ratings above all else. That’s what advertisers pay for in sports
Guess who’s turning 50?

Even if it was 100% free of any kind of politics Sportscenter in 2023 serves no real purpose and has no shot at bringing in numbers no matter how it's presented.
There is no point to waiting 30-60 minutes to see 20 seconds of highlights that might show one play for each team when you can easily get 5-15 minute individual team focused highlight packages on YouTube mirrored to your tv for free.
Sportscenter needs to look like your local news but for sports… it needs to show highlights, inform the viewer, and put things in context. You can get highlights fed to you for one specific team but who brings you the whole league, all the leagues?

He is the worst. I would rather listen to Desmond and Pollack.

Because they lose a shite load of money.
They bleed money, and the Mouse has to write big checks to cover their big losses. They have warned for years, that the free spending was coming to an end.
eventually with all of the stupid woke shite w/disney, espn, marvel, etc. the stocks going to tank a bit and stock holders and board are going to sue the frick out of aiger and disney.
their #1 responsibility as a publicly traded company is to make money, and not make jack arse moves to hurt the stock. they have made them since iger, and continue again with iger.

quote:This is the very reason I don't give a frick about ESPN anymore. Long ago were the days of waking up and watching highlights with nothing political. Strictly who won or lost a game and stats
2. They got political which turned off a big portion of their base

used to be a daily viewer. It takes an LSU sporting event that I really want to watch to tune in now.
Same here. Watching Sportcenter every day, or twice per day. Baseball Tonight every night in the summer. Now I only watch live sports and not even much of that. I’ve gotten older and follow sports less closely but also there are so many other options. Who needs Baseball Tonight when MLB Channel is 24/7? Or…the internet for highlights.

Because tigerdroppings is all we need.
Larry Leo will be TDs Skip Bayless
Pioneerbasketball will be TDs Dick Vitale
Oweo can be the Keith Olbermann we need
The possibilities are endless.

Because they have been overpaid for years and have no talent?
I hope Skip Bayliss and Stephen A Smith are the first two go.

Well, The great news is that no talent Max Kellerman, and The racist ,Jalen Rose both got axed yesterday. Those 2 were insufferable and it made my day.

Whatever happens at Disney, I expect Kathleen Kennedy will actually be given a promotion.

Apparently you don’t read LSU Scoreboard on game day. Those retards will give a Tylenol a headache.

ESPN also had layoffs in 2002, 2004, 2008, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2020, and 2021. Some of these layoffs were smaller on scale or didn't involve on-air talent. I imagine ESPN is a lot like other business, they overhire during times of economic prosperity and layoff when budgets have to be tightened up.
But I don't think it's at all unusual that they're laying people off. It follows a pattern on how they operate.
Their employees are holding a spot, and as soon as they become too expensive, they're replaced. There's no shortage of talent they can find that will work for less to get the experience.
