I’m not sure how AIC got everyone to memory hole their glam phase, but they did.

every band goes through phases in their early days trying to figure out who they are.

and once Alice In Chains found that grunge look and sound, they were simply better at it than the rest.

Facelift, Dirt, Jar of Flies, and their self titled album, was a 4 Album run (ok, one was technically an EP) stacks up against any of the other bands from that era.

Their magnum opus, IMO. It's a masterpiece.

Stapp and Creed were some of the most popular acts on the planet in the late 90's/early 00's. And they're still popular. Creed made some bangers.

Saying that, Pearl Jam runs circles around Creed.

and Layne Staley's work on Mad Season's only album is also right up there with anybody else from that time.

Those 90s singers

If you think about it, Oldies stations back in the 1990’s would play music from the 1950’s and 1960’s as oldies. Rock from the 1970’s would be classified as classic rock.

By that metric, 90’s songs could be considered oldies or classic rock today.

Pearl Jam the band. > Creed as a band

I agree with this, but Tramonte is also an incredible song writer.

Yeah, no. Great band but that’s just not how it went down. Eddie Vedder and Kurt Cobain were the face of “grunge” music in the 90s. Then Chris Cornell and Billy Corgan Then Scott Weiland/Lane Staley/Perry Ferrell

Woof. Usually I have to go to the Music Board for shitty takes like this.

Weiland had more vocal range than Vedder and Stapp, too. His voice on Tiny Music…Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop sounds completely different than his voice on Core and even Purple. He was such a talent.

Yeah, but Stone Temple Pilots is an afterthought of that era. Handful of decent songs and a bunch of garbage.

If Travis Meeks could have stayed clean...or clean enough, they could have been great

Creed including Scott Stapp seem pretty popular right now.

They've definitely had a resurgence.

have always wondered how Andrew Wood and Mother Love Bone would have fared if he hadn't OD'd. He was more charismatic than Vedder imo

Not well. Had he not OD’d he was still a mess and a junkie. I think the drummer (may be wrong) was a disaster too? Wood also leaned a bit too heavy into hair metal vocals. Would not have flown in Grunge. Staley could go into hair metal wailing too but he had a low rasp also that I never heard with Wood??

Vedder it’s his writing. Those first two albums are great. With a handful of B-sides too. After Versus he waned like most. Albums with only 3-4 good/great songs and then filler.

Full disclosure I am a complete Pearl Jam homer.

Scott Stap I will give credit for “What If” that song is ridiculous from pure singing.

Again. I’m not saying who’s better. Only who was more well known/popular.

Pearl Jam is quintessential grunge, and Creed is post-grunge.

The word "post" should tell you all you need to know.

Rock went from dominating charts in the 90s to essentially dying as a popular genre in the 2000s.

Creed, Nickleback, Staind, Puddle of Mudd, etc. were a little late to the show.
