If you’re ordering that much McDonald’s or Zaxby’s or Wendy’s there’s zero reason to get a Diet Coke. None
This is hyperbole. No one is ordering $25 worth for themselves on a consistent basis. Even if they are, a diet soda still less calories than a regular soda, so it does make a difference over time.
Removing a large coke from just a regular fast food meal can be damn near 20-30% less calories for the meal. It absolutely makes a difference.

Sure they are. We are the most obese fattest sickly developed country on planet earth.
If your order is a Big Mac and a small fry sure order a Diet Coke or Coke Zero.
If your order is a Big Mac, large fry, Filet o fish, and a 10 piece nugget a regular Coke isn’t going to matter at that point. It’s just not.

Listen dude I’ve been working at a McDonald’s for damn near ten years and we rarely if ever see an individual order $25 worth of food for themself

It’s pretty simple. I have a crippling caffeine dependency. I don’t want to have the caffeine addiction AND be fat.

Aspartame is more dangerous than sugar.
Diet sodas are loaded with aspartame.

Also some people just like the taste of diet coke better in my older age I much prefer the diet taste to regular and it has nothing to do with calories

This is totally false.

quote:Also I just did the math on this with a large coke it comes out to 2,240 calories vs 1,860 with the diet coke
Big Mac, large fry, Filet o fish, and a 10 piece nugget a regular Coke
Still a pretty significant difference

The people who go to McDonald’s and order $25 worth of food then a diet soda kill me.
I worked in a convenience store/gas station all through college in the middle of several trailer parks populated almost entirely by college students (yes, I'm old enough that that was before college students were too good to live in trailers).
The number of people—especially the college girls—who would come in and buy five candy bars and wash it down with a diet Coke was amazing and amusing.
It does make sense, though. The research seems to indicate that the diet sodas make you crave sugar (which is apparently why they are correlated with higher levels of obesity despite having no calories), so they would save the sugar and calories of the regular soda but then eat sugar in the form of the candy like it was going out of style.

What part of it is totally false?
Diet sodas are generally sweetened with aspartame. That's a fact.
And aspartame is possibly a carcinogen according to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (Level 2B classification.). That's also a fact.

Better quit with the diet sodas, then.
Diet soda associated with higher rates of obesity long term
From the study summary:
quote:
CONCLUSION
In a striking dose-response relationship, increasing diet soda intake was associated with escalating abdominal obesity, a potential pathway for heightened cardiometabolic risk in this aging population.
Just get you some caffeine pills and drink water.

The fact that aspartame is worse than sugar.
Look up the how much apartame was needed for adverse effects in the study.
Would be nearly impossible to to consume enough to be "worse than sugar"

This study proves nothing

Increased diet soda is "associated" with increased obesity in individuals over 65. Key word associated and not caused.
Fat people over 65 are more likely to consume more diet soda? Shocking!!
