For clarification, if you quit heroin, cold turkey, and are not in a medically-managed situation, you could suffer a range of symptoms including severe dehydration, nausea, vomiting that could end up with you in a life-threatening situation.
It is not all that different from the rare life-threatening situation that withdrawal from alcohol dependence does.

One of the biggest fallacies I've seen from weed proponents is this shite, which certainly causes people to turn off from your message.
Plus, they act like there is no downside/danger to the dope.

Yeah, there are tradeoffs to everything.
Smoking anything is terrible for the lungs, and thc certainly has impacts on short term memory.

Cannabis-induced demotivational syndrome is scientifically established now, as well.
Frankly, most of the positives of the plant likely come from the CBD side, not the THC side, although I'm sure some pain-relieving benefit comes with the "DGAF" effect of THC.

You think stopping heroin cold turkey wont kill you?
It won't kill you, you just wish you were dead.
There is also a high risk of seizures from benzo withdrawals.

THC makes my after chemo days slightly better. Thats all I really care about to be honest.

You get used to it. Some people have more testicular fortitude than others and can do tough things.

Only drug that can cause death stopping cold turkey for addicts.
Most of these stats are due to the fact that it’s legal and readily available. It’s also glorified in commercials of every show you watch. Why is that OT? Why is the drug allowed?
So based on the population's inability to handle what is currently legal, your solution is to legalize other things?

Americans love drugs. Its a multi billion dollar industry that's on the black market.
Bringing it into the regular economy is the way to fight fentanyl abuse and other "synthetic" drugs that would never have come to market had other less lethal drugs been legal.

Better question is why is anything someone decides to put inside their own body illegal?
Portland seems to be doing great after they decriminalized everything

In a few society we should be allowed to make poor descions

Let it fail.
We as individuals need to accept collective failures, otherwise behaviors never change.

This is what boggles my mind as to why anyone would want hard drugs to be legal. We have in Portland, San Francisco, and other major cities as what it looks like when you have large numbers of homeless junkies encamped in a city. Help me understand who would want to live in a city like this…
'Simply unacceptable': Disturbing footage emerges of semi-conscious junkies openly shooting up in front of commuters in vomit-covered BART station as San Francisco struggles to contain its homeless problem

What I don't understand is those who defend drinking and driving as long as they don't hurt anyone. And yes, I would throw distracted driving in there as well.

the problem with portland, SF, etc is those are just hellholes of liberal and far left ideology with zero thought towards crime prevention or presenting a nice safe community to be in.
Take any "normal", average anytown-USA that alllowed free use of drugs and it'd be fine. "But SF does it and they're awful!!" yes they're awful because there's no rules and you can do it anywhere you please. If you had to do certain drugs within a residence or else face legal punishment it wouldn't be an issue. Similar to how most places don't let you just chill out in public and get shitfaced, you ahve to do it in a home or restaurant or bar or an establishment that serves.
I believe that as a grown arse adult that can use my brain and make amy own decisions, the governemnt shoudln't be allowed to tell me what I'm permitted to put inside my body.

No one wants to live with it.
That doesn't mean I want to continue to waste billions every year in a failed "war" that only gets worse each year.
Sometimes things have to get worse before they get better.

Anarcho commie figs who have never done anything for themselves, who require massive public handouts to survive.
Cities have plenty of handouts.
