Airbnb customer service blows. Try getting in touch with someone when you arrive at your rental and it's locked, and the host won't answer. You'll be on the phone all night.

That cleaning fee is entirely up to the host, not Airbnb

I don't recall seeing an 80% cleaning fee on my last 1 night Marriott stay.
I think that is what OP is getting at.
Marriott is paying someone $10 an hour to strip the sheets, vacuum and clean a bathroom. It's much easier to pay someone by the hour than it is to hire someone to drive to your house on random days and clean it.

I’ve posted on here before talking about cleaning fee BS. It’s all on purpose by the owners in order to jack the price up.

It’s not as much Airbnb as it is the property owner. I have an Airbnb listing and we charge a 100 cleaning fee for stays longer than 2 days, and 40 for 2 days or less. We could add all sorts of other charges if we wanted to but we don’t like pissing people off this way. It makes you think you’re spending far less until it’s time to check out.
Any other fees for our place are Airbnbs fees.

Because you're only looking at 1 night. The service and cleaning fee stays the same if you are booking say 5 nights so it wouldn't be double.

Your second shite thread of the day. Be better

A house cleaning anywhere can set you back 75 bones.

What they list the rental for is LITERALLY twice as much as what is listed after all the bullshite fees and BEFORE taxes.

Rental price: $103
Total before taxes: $215
Wrong

Book directly with the owner separately and save some fees.

You can filter it out to show total price.

103 a night won't get you a Holiday Inn in North Dakota. If you are that ignorant as to how it works perhaps you should stay home so as not to hurt yourself. You see every fee and charge before you commit.

Go price a one night suite at a hotel for less that 200 bucks. A full condo is not the same as a one bedroom box hotel room.

For one or two nights hotels are the way to go. AirBNB/VRBOs aren’t set up to be profitable with high turnover, the value is in longer stays
Posted on 7/26/22 at 11:39 am to Geekboy
I don’t stay at AirBnBs because they all have hidden cameras in the bathroom and bedroom and I don’t want my large hairy black a-hole ending up on the internet.
Posted on 7/26/22 at 11:40 am to Geekboy
I could be wrong but I believe you can sort on VRBO by total cost. Much more practical.
Posted on 7/26/22 at 11:53 am to GetCocky11
But you've seen a resort fee
Posted on 7/26/22 at 12:08 pm to Geekboy
Why would you rent a house for 1 night?
Posted on 7/26/22 at 12:11 pm to Geekboy
Airbnb is generally no longer the cheapest option. I used to travel and sleep on a borderline cot for like 20 bucks a night, but all that kind of ended during Covid.
