Why I hate Unions - BLET spends millions on resorts while members "can't afford bills"

Union bosses living large while stating that their members aren't making it.

Five unions involved in the Long Island Rail Road strike earlier this week reported more than $3.2 million in 2025 spending on hotels, resorts, restaurants and event venues, according to Labor Department disclosures.
The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen, International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and Transportation Communications Union collectively spent upwards of $3.2 million on premium accommodations in 2025.
The disclosures offer a window into how the unions spent money on travel, conferences and event venues during the same year they argued workers were being squeezed by rising costs. The strike disrupted hundreds of thousands of daily riders and cost the region an estimated $61 million per day. While negotiating with the MTA on the grounds that their workers were being underpaid, the unions reported large payments to hotels, resorts, casinos and restaurants.

BLET and IAM collectively spent about half a million dollars at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas in 2025, according to disclosures. The spending covered lodging and event expenses. TCU, meanwhile, spent $856,403 at Caesar’s Hotel in Reno, Nevada
quote:
The IAM, for instance, spent $6,806 at the Strip House, where the cheapest steak on the menu, an 8-ounce filet, costs $67 and the most expensive, a porterhouse, runs $155.

The TCU, meanwhile, spent over $20,000 at Peter Luger Steak House, where steaks range in price from $90 to $320

BLET spent $107,375 at the Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort, the IBEW paid about $130,000 to TradeWinds Island Resort in Florida, plus an additional $130,000 for expenses at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, a popular vacation destination.

TLDR .
I hate unions bc they are lazy af, and get mad when you do something that is "their job" that they weren't going to do anyways.
Along with a lot of other shite. This was just this morning's example

That's why I laugh at those idiot nurses going on strike at UMC...
They were all gung ho union, until they found out the cost of their union dues, and the fact they didn't get merit raises when the non union nurses did.
These union people don't give a frick about workers, they just want your dues...

Those union locals for the Long Island Railroad are probably mobbed up.

That's not even close to what they launder for a certain political party.

When I was in college, I got into a disagreement with my instructor about joining a teacher's union (I was an education major).
Her argument for was that I ever got into a legal situation, the union would be there for me as legal representation. An "invaluable" resource.
My argument against was that it seemed to me the easiest way to protect myself was not to put myself in that situation to begin with.
Also, since I am politically conservative, why would I choose (pay) to align myself with an organization that is blatantly liberal?
She really didn't have an answer.

Whoever came in here and down voted all the posts on this thread, likely all the same person, has got to be hiding behind their union rep, pointing at the computer screen while say "they are being mean"

I mean even if you think you’re going to obey every law and keep things on the straight and narrow, shite happens

Same can be said for corporate offices that waste enormous amounts of money, then take benefits and pay from employees to increase profit margin for the shareholders.
Corporate is there for the shareholders.
Unions are there for the employees.
Both are usually corrupt.

Now do ceo’s, board members, and management so we can compare.

This is the only reason unions exist now, is for the luxury for the executives

Some animals are more equal than others.

My uncle worked for Entergy and would travel to disaster striken places to help restore power. He said working with union members made the process of restoring power miserable.

If you are ever in such a position, telling a career union drag arse to get fricked and then doing his job right in front of him is incredibly satisfying.
