Because both the quantity and quality of human trash in the populace continues to increase.

It is the same dynamic as Karaoke. The idea of handing someone a mirco-phone is not in and of itself a bad thing. Usually mirco-phones were great tools for important speakers or talented entertainers to convey their thoughts to the a large audience. There is an old running gag about "some idiot coming up on stage and grabbing the mirco-phone"...the underlying message is that we do not want to hear from everyone because everyone does not have something worth hearing.

Enter Karaoke...every idiot who can pencil his name on a list now gets the micro-phone and thinks they are the next American Idol.

Facebook is the micro-phone.

Just look at the people you are following for your answer. I noticed 75% of my friends list were involved in things you are describing. Then I realized the people I actually am friends with irl either didnt use FB or weren't constantly updating their status. Therefore, I didnt need it so I deleted FB.

When they made it available to everyone.

I actually liked it when you had to have a college email address to register. You could post stupid shite and joke around with each other in inappropriate ways.

Then they opened it up to everyone and all of a sudden I am getting friend request from people I don't want seeing the shite I posted or comments people made to me..

So IMO that's when it completely changed for me.

Considering how FB is structured, if all you see is trashiness on FB, guess what that says about you.....

Facebook stopped being cool when high schoolers and people's parents/grandparents got on there.

SIMPLE

Facebook was started as a networking platform for college students at Harvard University - an exclusive online community for kids who attend the prestigious school.

Then - it was rolled out to include roughly 100-145 Universities in the country, including all major state schools, ivy league schools, and premier privates.

It should have stopped right about here.

To be on facebook back in 2005, you would have needed to be a current or former student at roughly one of the best ~150 schools in the country. I'm not saying that means everyone who fits that description is necessarily smart - rather, it's a certain baseline that cuts out most weird, trashy behavior. Not a lot of Haleigh-Beth's with 2 baby daddies running their mouth about "hes our president" or jawing about service at a Newks going to any of those schools.

Much like a country club, the exclusivity precludes certain behavior.

Single moms looking to get praise for being single moms and grandpas reposting Trump and libtard memes. That's all it is now.

Oh and these next two weeks are the best weeks of the year. Back to school pictures!!!

I want to count punch every one of those people who make their kids pose for that shite.

My mom made us pose for first day of school pics every year when I was growing up. But there wasn't Facebook in the 80's, so they were just for familial use.

I think that's ok. Save them in a family photo album or digitally for keepsake purposes. There's nothing wrong with that. But you can tell these women are running their kids out there with their chalkboards with height and weight on them and other shite only for the likes and to make themselves feel better.

I have kids. But I'm not stupid enough to think anyone really gives a frick about my kids except my immediate family.

While that is true, I don't see those same kids in 40 years saying, "Hey kids, let's go through grandma's facebook account to see how mom and dad looked when we were in school! Oh, do you see how proud she was as a single mom? Look at all those likes!"

Maybe I'm jaded just a tad
