I think it has to do with the nature of mRNA. Something about it degrades too quickly to cause much of a reaction the first go 'round. It lasts long enough to "prime the pump" and cause your body to start building antibodies, but by the time your body can fight it there's nothing left to fight. When it comes around the second time your body responds right away which makes you feel bad for a bit.

Ok I’m just saying 80% seems good enough to avoid potentially feeling terrible from a second shot when depending on your personal health situation you aren’t at much risk at all from the actual disease.

I have heard multiple cases of shingles that have arisen after 2nd shot.

Second shot arm not as sore but about day after I didn't feel all that great, no fever but some chills, headache, tired.

I think a lot of the talk about the second shot making you “miserable” is overblown.

Some people feel really bad but most don’t get anything worse than fatigue.

Honestly if you’re offered a second shot, I would just take it and go home and take 600mg ibuprofen right after. You’ll be fine.

Look it is a risk reward thing I get it. All depends on what risks you are willing to take given your personal situation.

The biggest risk you took was with the first shot.

You may as well get the second if you got the first.

The first shot did absolutely nothing, basically no soreness (unless I lifted my arm above a natural position and even then minimal) and even the bandaid had hardly any blood on it. Not to mention I barely felt the needle.

I had the Phizer shots, the first one was similar to this. Soreness of the arm, no blood. Second had me in bed for a day and a half. Felt like the flu without the sickness part of it. Achy all over for a couple days.

It is because your body successfully already built antibodies from the 1st dose. So yes, you likely didn’t need the second dose if you experienced these symptoms

It’s the same reason people who already had covid actually get these symptoms after dose 1

This is my big problem with the current state of health care. Just do what you are told and don’t ask questions.

I assume when the powers that be make these kind of decisions about vaccines they do it to protect the population in the generic sense. That being said, every person is different so decisions should also be made on a personal case by case basis given each person specific health situation. Every person should have a conversation about anything that goes into their body. If your doctor responds with bc I said so then you need to get a new dr.

I don’t understand how you got to thinking I’m telling you to “do as your told without asking questions” when I’ve posted twice in this thread answering your questions.

Your healthcare professionals have seen hundreds if not thousands of people, first hand, who have received these vaccines. They’re telling you what they’ve seen.

I have seen very few people get put on their arse by this. But I have seen some. However, in my experience, if you didn’t feel real bad from the first shot, you probably aren’t going to feel like complete arse on the second shot.

I predict you’ll be fatigued for 24 hours and maybe have a low grade temp and this is if you do nothing. If you take ibuprofen right after, you may not get anything noticeable other than the arm pain.

this is good to hear

my wife got her first and it didn't really have any affect on her

her 2nd is next week and since she stays home and takes care of our 2 year old, I really didn't want to have to take off work for a day if the 2nd shot put her on her arse

Thats worse symptoms than most of the 15 or so in my extended family that have had COVID.

Ridiculous to basically force us to take this shot.

I took the first shot Tuesday. Maderna. Felt just as bad as when I had Covid in October. Arm hurt like hell like they gave me the shot in the bone, fever, tired, short of breath, and terrible lower back pain. I don’t take flu vac and the only reason I decided to take this vac was because of the trouble I had with having COVID

So basically the 2nd shot proves it is working? Does everyone actually need and second shot or not? This is a legitimate question. One shot of modern/Pfizer is supposedly more effective of 1 J&J. We have been told this. Is that false and you really need both shots?

Got my first Pfizer and had some arm soreness that evening/night, but it was mostly gone the next day.

Got my second one a week ago and the arm soreness was there again, maybe a little worse, and seemed really tired the following day. But other than that, nothing out of the ordinary that I noticed.

You probably don't need it, no.

Here is a report that both Moderna and Phizer yield a 92% efficacy after the 1st dose

We know the second shot boosts efficacy.

We strongly suspect the second shot boosts duration of immunity.

Moderna thinks their immunity lasts at least 2 years after the two shot series. Unsure how long it lasts after one shot.

The boost in efficacy from the second shot helps with variants.

Honestly, my only point with this is don’t avoid the second shot because you’re afraid of feeling bad for a couple days. If you’re worried about it for other reasons, then yes, it’s true you get the most benefit from at least getting one shot versus none. It will at least probably keep you out of the hospital if you get tagged.
