The fact that our schools are so eurocentric gives a false impression of Western European dominance.

thats the best thing about Dan Carlin's newest set of podcast 'King of Kings'. He ties to paint the picture without the Greek westernized glasses that we were brought up learning with it being 'God guys (west) vs bad guys (Persians)"

Also the Sumarian -> Babylonian -> Assyrian -> Persian kingdoms were fricking boss as shite at times throughout periods

just think it's funny that so many people (most without passports) have such disdain for countries they have never been to.

I don't have a disdain for France, but seems like a lot of people's families in South LA left there for a reason. I'm not really interested in living there. But some how that makes you a dumb arse American.

Fair enough. I don't mind being called entitled, but I do find exception when people make blind assumptions of places they will never go to.

Besides I don't think it's out of line to assume most people on TD will never go to France when only a small percentage have passports. Like I said, I wasn't talking about you per se.

American world influence expands way beyond that map though. Not a whole lot of undeveloped world left to take over like the British and French did. Times are different.

Would be interesting to compare populations of those areas from then to now.

When I moved to Europe for work, I had to drastically expand my wardrobe. I really didn't appreciate the extent to which folks here dress nicer. I wear a tie every day, and a suit several days a week, and I'm in engineering!

This is how you do it. A nice tailored suit and a beautiful woman.

Problem has been French leadership. French troops were always tough.

See Dien Bien Phu. A defeat. Look at the mauling Ho Chi Minh got even though he won. Those troops were cut off, heavily outnumbered, we're at tactical disadvantage, and still beat their asses until they ran out of ammo and supplies.

The men and women who attend the black churches around here dress to the nines. The people who go to the white churches dress like shite, for the most part.

Bus riders in the 30's dressed better than people going to funerals and church do now.

Why would anyone want to wear a suit and tie on a routine basis? Especially in the southeast US. I haven't worn one in more than 10 years and may turn down a job in small part because a suit would be required at times. Been there, done that, do not want.
