Most Republicans love their version of daddy government.

If they get a trashy casino built in Slidell they will eventually build trashy casinos in Mandeville and elsewhere. Baton Rouge and Mississippi are close enough. St. Tammany has been in overdevelopment hell for the last two decades. The parish government would love the graft that comes with casinos. And the traffic is already bad enough.

I BET YOU most of the funding for the anti casino groups comes from casino ownership

Majority of those signs are paid for by the MS casinos.

There is undeveloped lakefront in my neck of the woods. I'm fine with several possible development options but casino ain't one. I'm not in Slidell, but slippery slopes and all that. Casinos are trashy AF. So proud to say NIMBY

It really has nothing to do with politics. It’s a stupid wasteful and net negative idea

Your average Louisiana republican is gay for big government

Then they'd support the casino. If there was any industry thoroughly tied into govt its big gambling.

Pretty easy for mandeville to prevent that from happening. This vote has nothing to do with mandeville

But a true Republican would say let people make their own choices.

But anyone with the ability for independent thought and some care for their family and community would oppose policies that would hurt those things.

I'm a Republican and I'm all for people making their own choices. My choice is to oppose a known broken window attraction into my own community. If other communities want it, all the power to them in making that choice.

The vote will be whether or not to allow casinos in St. Tammany Parish. It absolutely has everything to do with Mandeville. You're next.

Mandeville could outlaw them in city limits, or change zoning laws, etc. again, nothing to do with mandeville at this time

This!!

Why are people so ignorant on this?

This is about a casino in Slidell, not Mandeville. Although it will benefit the entire parish, I don’t understand why Mandeville people are against it.

Yep. People in Mandeville, Covington, Madisonville, Pearl River, Lacombe are voting on something that will have a direct impact on Slidell. I'd be perfectly fine if Slidell residents voted yes on a Slidell Casino. The idea that these other places got a say on something as trashy as a casino in my city, I'd be passed. And if this passes, they might.

Believing in other people's freedom to do things does not mean you have to celebrate said activity or promote it in your own neighborhood.

I’m not against the idea but, something tells me that this will start off like a Ferrari and end up like a Mustang. Sort of like the Six Flags/Jazzland property. I wouldn’t want a potential eye sore to be built. I like a weekend getaway every once in a while to the coast to gamble. If people from Mississippi/Alabama would come to Slidell then I may think differently. However, I just don’t see it happening.

There’s casinos 30 minutes away on the southshore and right on the Mississippi gulf coast. All this will do is attract NOLA East residents… big NO from me.

PS- has nothing to do with religion … parish is overwhelmingly Catholic.
