re: Why do(n't) you own a pair of Oakleys?

bought a pair of polarized Oakleys in the early 2000s. Within a few months the coating on the lenses had bubbled up around the edges and started to flake. Too much money to have that happen.
You might have bought a fake pair.
I was dead against the expense of them for years. Then I finally broke down and purchased some. Their quality is worth it.
I've sat on them, thrown them in bags, had them slide into every crevice of vehicles, taken them to the beach, to races, to ranges, to games, water and snow skiing, camping and hiking ... never once had a problem with bubbling you described. The only complaint I have is after a few years the rubber section at the ears will breakdown and need to be replaced (~$15).

Because they are not any better than a 20 or $25 pair of sunglasses. People are paying for the name to keep up with the baws and frat stars.

I think they look ridiculous.

At least you are consistently wrong with virtually every subject you post about.

Because they're terrible style.

I can never find a style that fits my giant gourd of a head. the ones that actually fit make me look like The Fly.

I refuse to buy Oakleys after Luxottica took them over. They sued Luxottica, claiming they were controlling prices by creating a monopoly,(They own almost every major brand, sunglass outlet, and eye care chain). In response Luxottica dropped them from their stores, put them out of business, and bought the company for pennies. They literally have full control of the market price for glasses and sunglasses.

I bought sunglasses from Shady Rays a couple of months ago. They were $60 and they were running a buy one get one sale, so I got 2 different pairs. I'm just as happy with them so far as I ever was with my RayBans. The return policy is really good too. Break them, scratch them, or lose them and they will send you a replacement up to twice for the cost of shipping.

I wear them because they fit tight and wrap around my face well while I am cycling and playing sports. I need something that does not fall off. They are not attractive, but I do not care about that.

If a person is wearing Oakley's, I automatically assume they have an inflatable pool in their front yard all year long

Because it's not 1996
Posted on 9/13/17 at 7:31 am to CatsGoneWild
Because the film on the lenses breaks down when it contacts sunscreen and that isn't covered under their warranty.
Have a pair of Native glasses now that have held up just fine. I want some new ones, but there is nothing wrong with them to justify another pair of glasses.

I don't...because they are too expensive. And they would get scratched, or broken, or lost. How about the rest of the OT?
Because Oakleys are for poor people and/or trash balls

I often have to wear safety glasses for work so it's these by S & W, $13 on Amazon. I've purchased expensive sunglasses when I was a young man and felt the sting of them being lost, scratched, etc., never again.
