Why don’t we seize all Chinese properties and businesses in the US?

Obviously if we sue them they will never pay anything but why not just seize all their US properties and businesses. I’m sure we wouldn’t be the only country to do it f we lead the way. What could they do if all the countries team up against them and do it as one large group?

A lot of Chinese businesses (actual country, not just individuals) are owned through US Corps.

So you think US companies don't have investments in China?
Cuts both ways

Try phrasing it a different way please.

A lot of companies in the US are reliant in selling goods and services to China. Do you want to further hurt American business by losing them hundreds of millions of potential clients? Now isn’t the time to sever this relationship. Private companies should start to shift manufacturing back to the US and that should be a big first step.

If there is any type of punishment against China it has to be a Global effort...Otherwise the US will look like a bully and the media would have a field day defending China as the victim..

Okay.
So foreign nationals cannot own things like oil reserves and other items, so they buy a US corporation. This allows them to then purchase things they are generally not allowed to.
So in theory, you'd have to examine every single US corporation and track down all of the investors.

Imagine if other countries did this to US companies. A few have actually. Communist countries.

That's not how it works.

They are the largest foreign holder of US debt. Not to mention virtually all US companies rely on China to some extent. We would be much better served to get into a physical war than an economic war with China. You think a six week shutdown was bad? It will pale in comparison to an economic war with them.

So...we seize the property of Chinese citizens to punish the Chinese government?
I’m not sure I can think of something more un-American. We’re better than this.

We're already in an economic war with China.

You’re right but sadly the corporate/government decision makers value profit over health and security.
We should not have any dealings with China; the complete Cuba treatment.

A significant portion of their U.S. investments are directly or indirectly owned by their government.

It would be nice if we could cool down the anti-China (and anti-Russia) rhetoric. I don't know the truth about how the coronavirus originated and disseminated, but right now our time and energy are better spent fixing our own economy than stirring up passions against other world powers and possibly starting a real war.
This constant Russia/China bashing from politicians smacks of a commonly used political technique; when your power is threatened internally, create an external enemy to distract the population.

No they aren’t.

I guess you could just go after the investments that are directly owned by the state, but is it really worth the blowback?
Trump (to his credit) has done a pretty good job of running off Chinese investment in the US (public and private). I think I read it’s down 90% since he took office. Is it really worth it to expropriate the rest like we’re some 3rd world banana republic?
