Why don't long haul trucks have their own lane?

It seems like a good idea. Give them a lane with a higher speed limit and keep them away from passenger vehicles.

We already don't have enough lanes for the traffic we have. So, take away a lane and make it just for certain vehicles?

All I know is it would have to be partitioned off because they don’t adhere to the “Trucks Use Right Lane Only” signs on the Basin Bridge.

they should restrict them to the right lane and have a speed limit 5mph lower than passenger vehicles

The NJ turnpike restricts 18 wheelers from the left hand lanes. And it's fan-fricking-tastic.

They already exceed the speed limit regularly.

As for traffic. I think it would be a net gain to keep them to a single lane rather than allow them to slow down traffic going uphill or changing lanes.

why don't we just have flying cars and trucks where we don't need lanes at all?

If you've ever been outside your local burg then you'll understand that trucks in Europe can't use the fast lane in many areas on freeways.

That's what this sign means:

It works better that way.

But more of them play by the rules of the road when driving (on average) than we do here so you can drive whatever speed there and we can't trust our morans to do so here.

What does that sign mean?

Looks like a "don't pass on the right" sign to me

It’s a sign for roads in Europe where they drive on the opposite sides.

Kid of like Australia where everyone drives upside down.

Express lanes are common in New Jersey and eastern PA. They help a lot.

IMO, I-10 should be a minimum of 6 lanes wide (8 or 10 in Baton Rouge and NOLA), with trucks limited to the right two lanes of traffic only.

Perhaps a turnpike that parallel's I-10 in the Gulf Coast would be helpful to facilitate freight movements? Exits only at every major highway every 10-15 miles or so.
