You are dumb!!!

It works better that way.
But more of them play by the rules of the road when driving (on average) than we do here so you can drive whatever speed there and we can't trust our morans to do so here.
I miss driving in Germany. Almost four years of amazing traffic flow.
Then I came back to the shite show that is american drivers.
I've driven in Germany, Spain, Scotland, Australia, Jordan, Israel, and Kuwait...and US drivers are the absolute worst by a HUGE margin.

If you've ever been outside your local burg then you'll understand that trucks in Europe can't use the fast lane in many areas on freeways.
For good reason. Hard to do that in Louisiana when so much of our highway network is only 4 lanes wide. RV's, vehicles with trailers, big rigs, and anything over a Class 5 rating need to be limited to the right two lanes only when we eventually get our highways widened.

’s a sign for roads in Europe where they drive on the opposite sides.

They have good lane restrictions and slower traffic does actually keep right. It makes the highways less volatile (and safer) for everyone.
But they do have severe traffic problems just like we do in a lot of areas.

IMO, I-10 should be a minimum of 6 lanes wide (8 or 10 in Baton Rouge and NOLA), with trucks limited to the right two lanes of traffic only.
Hasn't it been shown repeatedly that adding Lanes has a zero or negative effect on traffic due to induced demand

I’m guessing the sign is actually from the UK. A lot of Europe drives in the right.

Main thing they have going. They dont just hang out in the left lanes because they want the extra comfort, they keep an eye on the rear view, and dont have meltdowns when someone flashes their lights behind you

Cool, what’s your funding for this?

you mean like the basin bridge where they always stay in that lane ?
They are supposed to. That may be one of those stretches that remains 4 lanes wide for a long time. We'd get a lot of accidents involving big rigs that would end up closing the highway for hours and hours.
When LSP enforces speed limits and lane restrictions on that stretch, they have fewer accidents. They eventually get complacent and stop enforcing both until we get another catastrophic accident.
I also think that in Baton Rouge, clear digital signage should be used to instruct truck traffic to get off I-10 E and take the old bridge around when traffic is tied up at rush hour. We can't really do that properly until Airline Highway is widened though.

Those studies always recommend widening only when capacity enhancements are needed. It doesn't always reduce traffic time, but it does move more traffic for any given time frame. To the individual driver, it doesn't make a huge amount of difference. System-wide, it makes a tremendous difference.
That's an important feature in Louisiana, where alternative routes to I-10 and I-12 are limited and freight traffic takes those routes by default.

True. But even getting caught in a Stau isn't as bad as your typical US traffic jam.
I'd just settle for the morons around here learning what a zipper merge is.

This. That would be amazing if people knew how to handle that.

ok, you pay for it

I’ve always thought large metro areas should have windows of time when 18 wheelers can’t come through.
Rush hours
Rush hours

We already don't have enough lanes for the traffic we have. So, take away a lane and make it just for certain vehicles?
So basically make I-12 and I-20 1 lane for trucking and 1 lane for everything else.

One reason is difference in speed among various trucks. If I’m hauling an empty or only have a bare chassis, I can boatrace any truck with a full load of 70-80,000 pounds going uphill. I’m not gonna sit behind him doing 25 mph when I can pass him at 65 mph.
Biggest problem is truck companies not paying drivers enough. The dregs of society take the job. There’s a world of difference between drivers and professionals. It sucks we all get lumped in with the tards, lard asses and general troglodytes. Hard to blame passenger car drivers bitching, though, because I see truckers doing dumb shite all the time, too.

Most cities have bypass routes.
But deliveries still need to be made in the city. Unless the city mandates delivery times (which affects work hours), there will always be trucks there in rush hour.

Yeah...but trucks are usually the cause of the biggest traffic issues during those times.
In Nashville, it’s pretty much a guarantee that a big rig will overturn somewhere in/around town between 3 & 4 every Friday.
