I have a strong take on kids (and adults) with severe allergies. I understand that it's insensitive and unfeeling, but it's based on sound logic.

I believe they should be denied treatment. I don't believe we should make special accommodations for them either. We need to let nature take its course.

If you can't eat a peanut without your heart stopping, then nature simply didn't intend for you to make it. We only perpetuate this insult to natural selection by allowing you to live and pass on your genetics.

Fair enough. Sorry your kid had a tantrum. I understand, because pistachios are delicious. Regardless, maybe her being told no just now was good way to learn how to cope without any true harm coming to her.

In all seriousness, one reason the schools cater to children with allergies is because it’s a selling point for the schools.

Will a parent with a non-allergic send their kid to a school that caters to allergic children? Probably, if it’s a good school relative to other options.

Will a parent who has a kid that is allergic to something send their kid to a school that doesn’t cater to the allergy? Probably not.

Also, is it really economically feasible (from an institutional level all the way down to an individual level) to spend all the time, money, and energy to set up exclusive schools for children that are allergic to something. Short answer is no.

My point is, school is for social development and learning. It isn’t a restaurant. This really shouldn’t be that big of an issue. If my kid were allergic to math and science and they got rid of that, the butt-hurt would be warranted.

My 11 yr old son has level 5 peanut allergies
It’s not something I would wish on anybody but to simply tell him that he shouldn’t exist because of this allergy is just fricking stupid
With that logic anybody that’s not “perfect” should be put down??
Way to go Nazi

I think it's obvious he was just looking to get a rise out of people. As far as the other post about separating the kids in different schools, not a single person in this thread saying that actually thinks it's a good idea. Nobody would actually think that, it's just to get people riled up or be funny.

ETA: People who would actually think it's a good idea or actually could work are to retarded to be able to get on a message board and type that out.

Well I said it was insensitive. You can't deny the logic though.

Why did no one my age ever hear of a peanut allergy?

Actual question - is modern society more sheltered regarding building up whatever so you aren’t allergic?

Want to hear something screwed up. My little boy loves peanut butter so much he told me he wanted to have peanut butter sandwiches put on his grave.

It was both hilarious and horribly sad.

my ex was allergic to peanuts. we had to be picky about where we would eat out.

This sounds like too much trouble, I would have just broken up with her early in the relationship.

Do you think he’s going to be able to run from the slightest ghost of peanuts forever?

You are being overly emotional. Not logical. No one said that your kid should be put down. But he should be learning to function in a world where peanuts are a reality. Just carry an epi-pen and try to avoid them. Don’t make everyone else conform to your specific needs.

I watched a documentary on this. A lot of doctors are starting to believe that parents are being overprotective and not exposing their children to enough foods and bacteria at an early enough age. They live in sterile environments and don't touch certain foods until they're 7-8 years old. Many children are genetically more susceptible, but their lack of exposure only makes it worse. They have immune systems that never develop.

Agreed, not wasting time on it but
my son has just learned to deal with it
At school it doesn’t affect anybody else’s lunch
they still serve peanut butter and jelly sandwiches when they do he just gets a ham one, it’s not the end of the world.
Epic pen is at school and the nurse is aware
What’s really been the hard part is learning that there’s so many things that are processed in plants that also use peanuts
Lil Debbie, Zapps list goes on and on.

Wow. Okay. I'm not that hard on the issue. I just wanted the discussion.
My wife already told me how selfish and heartless this idea was. Lol

My wife wasn’t wanting to make enough milk for the kid but I didn’t want him to be a weak allergy kid so I made her drink a gallon of milk every day. It really helped her production, especially if you get the kind with hormones
