US has raised the ceiling. Europe has raised the floor.

Living standards are subjective. People enjoy different things. This article reeks of a need for validation. It is quite pathetic.

More public spaces and third places in Europe. US cities lack publicness.

The average American has a much better standard of living than the average European.
That sounds like typical USA rhetoric. Seems like US has the most crime in the world for a 1st world country, and the most prisoners. Our politicians have sold us out to the corporations (highest bidder $$$$) and slowly we have had more freedoms taken away from us in the name of preserving freedom. America used to be the greatest country ever in the 20th century, but it is not that as of now. Trump and Hilary was our candidates to lead this country, so obviously that should say enough about how the American people are fricked. I just wish we knew who our true overlords were, so we could submit to them.

Travel the world buddy, you'll see.

The USA is a land of extremes. However the standard of living for average citizens is top notch

i mean absolutely no offense to you personally, but why do people think spending 2 weeks in any location qualifies them to speak about the quality of life in that place? this is the same thing as people who say atlanta or denver suck because they had a 5 hour layover in the airport there, or because they hate their sports teams.

Spent almost 6 years living in Western Europe-- and in a relatively prosperous corner of it, within an already prosperous corner of the Anglosphere.

It really isn't a contest.

If you like time off and a lower standard of living, then Western Europe is a great place for you. If you want to live off the state, its even better.

If you like choice, prosperity, and a higher standard of living-- and aren't a complete defective incapable of self-care-- you'll thank your lucky stars every day to be an American.

Europeans are so happy that they’ve stopped reproducing and embraced their own nihilistic destruction. It’s fantastic.

Eventually, huh? Sounds to me like you don't have the courage of your so-called convictions. Why don't you just GTFO now.

And don't go away mad, just go away.

I bet you don't have the sand to just get up and walk away.

Link? Sounds like you are speaking out of your arse and making up statistics

It’s not half the world but the US has had by far (and I mean A LOT) the most immigration of any country over the last several decades.

EXCEPT, the western Europeans sell inferior products to eastern Europeans. Food with less important ingredients, etc.

This Der Spiegel article is in English and it outlines just what shi ts western Europeans are to their neighbors to the east who happen to also be europeans.

How about that this person and people in general only really talk about parts of Europe (such as some Western European and the Scandinavian countries) when talking about how “Europe is so much better”. Most of the rest of Europe doesn’t compare to the US.

Btw the US’s Human Development Index is higher than the vast majority of European countries too.

We aren't talking about the rest of the world, but US vs European nations or really any other 1st world countries. And no one isn't saying the US isn't top notch, but lets not act like the US is #1 at everything. Again typical U-S-A rhetoric.

So the US isn't? So we don't bail out banks or other failing businesses? Our politicians are representing the corporations instead of their constituents.
