Why doesn't US soldiers have "Spoils of War" anymore?

I see it on Antique Roadshow, Pawn Stars, etc, all the time. People come in with something their father/grandfather brought home from the war. Cool things like Japanese swords, Nazi medals, helmets, etc.
I never hear of people bringing trophies from wars in Vietnam to today's war.

that and if they're smart they'll keep quiet about whatever they take. so their kids, grandkids, great grandkids, etc will get the chance to sell it or hang onto it. look at it as an investment

It went the same way as "raping and pillaging." It just isn't good policy if you are hoping to maintain a relationship with the conquered side afterwards, which is extremely important in today's small world.
