No time to signal when you're down shifting and flooring the ole hemi.
I only signal in close traffic of when I'm running 100+ and letting the slow moving car in the left lane know that I'm going to go around him in the right. I hate when people see me flying up behind them and panic and try to move out the way at the last second.

i'm convinced that the practice of using turn signals is not even taught in driver's ed anymore.
during my normal commute i'm sure i see more people turn or change lanes without signaling than i do signaling.

Because especially in baton rouge it means for the person in the other lane to speed up and block you from getting over. Baton rouge has the worst drivers ever. Even new Orleans drivers let you over when you use your blinker.
My experience has been the exact opposite of this. New Orleans drivers won't let you over for anything. Baton Rouge drivers are generally courteous. If someone next and a little ahead of me has their blinker on, I let them over. I see others do the same all the time. The rare exception seems to always be what appears to be a 20-something white dude in a pick-up truck. Those assholes are the ones that think they own the entire road and will defend it with their life.

I think it is always a good idea to let other drivers know what you are planning on doing. People that don't signal are either morons or assholes.

It happens everywhere. 75% of drivers do not use turn indicators. It cuts across all income levels and car types. Drives me up the freaking walls. When I reenact the movie "Falling Down" in my head, my first act would be to lean into a non-signaling assclown's car and bring my fist down hard on their turn signal lever, making sure to break it off, since they don't f-ing use it.
My newest pet peeve is drivers who never turn off their bright lights! It's happening more and more and I don't understand. Give them the flash, nothing, give them the second, longer flash and nothing. Turn your brights on...nothing. Are the just heads-down texting or inconsiderate frickchops?

I use my signals regularly. One thing that blows my mind is that occasionally I'll need to turn right and will put my turn signal on to let the unemployed oil field worker in his jacked up diesel pick up behind me know that I'm gonna have to slow down to make a turn. Also trying to prevent him from rear ending me because he's been practically hitting it from behind on my bumper because going ten miles over the speed limit is not enough. I guess you need to do 80 on a 55. So I put on my blinker and proceed to turn, and this jackass either lays on his horn or pulls a dramatic sweeping pass around me as though he doesn't have time to slow down. How dare I have to turn and slow down to do so!
Believe it or not, this happens more than just a rare time or two.

I've always been good about using my blinker. But when I moved to Nola, I quit using it. People really do speed up and cut you off there. It drove me fricking crazy. Now that I'm in Colorado, I use them again. People don't drive like dicks here.

I sometimes won't let people merge/change lanes if they aren't using their blinker. Those using their blinker I'll let in front of me.

I had one person tell me they don't signal because they don't want people to know what they are going to do. Of course, this person was in a Psychologist's office.

Baton Rouge is one of the worst places I've ever been as far as driver's not using turn signals. It's very frustrating. It's not even that bad in the suburbs or in neighboring cities. I don't get why BR drivers specifically refuse to use turn signals.

AMEN brother
a few years back, on a rainy night in buffalo grove[ northern illinois ] I was in the left turn lane, with signal on, rain reflecting off the blacktop in the evening. It was a poorly lit area and I was just waiting for traffic to pass so I coud turn. finally the last car passes and I start rolling and start the turn, when I realize there's a car comin right at me
so I backed off the wheel the best I could and was cringing for the impact and nothin...we musta missed by a hair...my heart pounding at 240 I slowly exit the intersection and kinda pull over and look back...the other car had stopped, no lights were on, suddenly his lights go on and then he takes off
that was a close one I never want to repeat again
Tho in the dark and the rain, I was waiting to cross another road near a viaduct and decided to lower my right window to see better, and sho nuff there was another unlit car coming that coulda hit me but I dbl checked b4 crossing...
I think folks are just too distracted, radio, cellphone, GPS , going to get laid etc....lights and signals are an after thought at best

I have lived in Atlanta for 16 years.
My wife's family lives in Birmingham. When I drive in Birmingham I am shocked by how polite and well the people drive.

It really isn't necessary to use a turn signal every time you intend to change direction. It should be used if it isn't already clear and the information may be useful to others.
For example, if you are in a right turn only lane, by all means feel free to ignore it. Everyone already expects you to turn. If you are in a lane where you have a choice whether to turn or not, it would be nice to let people behind you know you plan to turn (and maybe have to wait for oncoming traffic).
If you're just changing lanes on an interstate, usually it isn't necessary unless you're trying to squeeze into a tight space. But if you're ten car lengths away from anyone then who GAF?
