Why does Slidell get a bad rap on this board?

Besides a handful of trashy neighborhoods (Possum Hollow, Kingspoint, Huntwyck) the majority of the town is actually pretty nice. The local schools are some of the best in the state, the police do a good job keeping the crime under control, most areas outside of the hood are clean and well maintained.

I guess I don’t understand why Slidell has become a bat signal for tards on the OT to clutch their pearls every time it comes up in a thread

Is Slidell the Livingston Parish of New Orleans now that St Bernard is heavily depopulated?

People who don't live here think they're cool to trash it on an internet forum

St Bernard moved to Slidell after the storm.

Slidell is now the “rural Florida” of Louisiana.

New Orleans East...North.

There are some really good people in Slidell, but Katrina took a toll on the place and it has been in a slow state of decline ever since.

Katrina didn't do Slidell any favors.

It’s the NOLA equivalent of Marietta, GA.

My mom lives there. I go once a year to visit. It sucks and is well worthy of the derision.

Kids from there get lined up, dress "urban" and wear their keys hooked to their belt loop.

There are some good parts of Slidell. I don’t get the hate either. I mean it’s not prime real estate but it sure in the hell isn’t Baton Rouge proper.

Maybe people think Slidell is Pearl River. Idk

I don't have much personal experience with it but around Katrina I became friends with a group from there. Apparently it got a lot worse/trashier with the Katrina exodus, and not like how Baton Rouge blames all its problems irrationally on it...like it really did ACTUALLY happen with Slidell

I’m from Eastern ST. Tammany and I can assure you this is not an assumption! Crime is most definitely rising due to Nola East spilling into the new housing which is on top of the old dump and the massive influx of Chalmations since Katrina. I’ve always been proud of where I’m from but Slidell has definitely taken a turn for the worse. The casino they are about to vote on will not bring near as much good to the parish as it will the bad.
