re: Why does Louisiana keep giving money for Super Dome renovations rather than blowing it up?

. It’s dark in the hallways and there aren’t many good concessions. The hallways are narrow. The stairways are steep, the multi-colored seat backs across the stadium look like an origami show. There’s not enough room for the ticket lines outside the stadium, and the lines get backed up and have to wrap around each other several times

The State can't even afford to keep its roads and bridges in good condition. Building a new stadium is probably at the bottom of the list of priorities right now.

IDK. I feel like Saints fans would make a badass tailgate culture if they had the space for it.
What’s in it for them?
It’s all downside- no revenue from what’s being consumed, underage drinking, potential drug use/sales, drunks badly interacting with other drunks, having to supply some level of security with a citizenry that can’t behave itself, having to clean up after some disgusting percentage of tailgaters, I’m sure I’ve missed some more negative things.

there wouldn’t be a traffic cluster frick like in downtown NOLA.
Great idea there's very little traffic on the north shore coming off the causeway going into Covington.

It’s hard to tailgate for noon games when you have to get in line an hour before
Tailgating will never be huge

Why tf should Louisiana pay for either renovations or a new stadium.
Well technically it is not the state paying for most of the renovations. Most of the money to operate and renovate the Superdome comes from hotel/motel taxes in the city of New Orleans. They only use the state as a financing agent to back the bonds as they are issued by the Louisiana stadium exposition district.
But as far as renovations to the Dome that should have been addressed but never been touched since opening, the parking garages need some refreshing. Navigating some of those ramps in there can be a little sketchy in a large truck. Also, adding more spaces could help too.
It has been awhile since going to downtown, but I can recall several surface lots near Loyola that were parking lots that are now buildings.

The best thing about the dime is its location.
Teams like Miami and San Francisco that have hour drives to the stadium from downtown suck.

I still have my "San Antonio Saints" shirt I bought outside the alamodome in 2005.

Wait they don't sell beer?
I went to a saints game in Houston a few years back and they didn't sell liquor and I found that shitty. ( this was like 2009)
I couldn't believe not having beer at least.

Chicago's stadium is in a good location. Near the south loop. You can walk there from downtown. I walked there from the Intercontinental and it wasn't bad.
Not as smack in downtown. But not the worst location. Atlanta has a great location too.
Charlotte was OK.
My least favorite is Miami.
Took me three hours to get to the superbowl from our hotel in south Beach in 1999.
Someone said Indianapolis. I haven't been to a game there. But I was in Indy a few years ago and it was right downtown. Could walk to that circle in the middle of the city in two minutes.

Imagine how bad it would be with EVERYONE getting off only at Tchoupitoulas which already backs up bad whenever a container ship is in port.
Right now you have multiple exits that lead to the superdome with Howard being the locals secret.

can't stop thinking about how terrible of an idea this is

Instead of doing renovations over and over, the state should buy a piece of property in the middle of a field in St. Tammany Parish.
Nope. St. Tammany has enough traffic now, we don't need more carpetbaggers and Chalmettions clogging up our roads.

I park by the quarter, grab breakfast at Johnny's or something, walk to the stadium, watch a game, walk back to the quarter and grab something to eat and then drive home all why encountering little traffic. We had season tickets for a long time, I think we sat in traffic once. There is too much to go do to sit in traffic.
even if you leave directly after the game it isn't terrible. Compared to LSU games it's no contest at all.
