i honestly dont know where i stand on the death penalty and i pretty much avoid taking either side on this. its a really complicated issue

Conservatives don’t trust the government to administer a food stamp program, but they do trust it to carry out executions of its citizens!

I’m philosophically opposed to the death penalty for a host of reasons, but even if I weren’t, the practical reasons seem overwhelming:

1. Executing innocent people should be avoided.
2. In order to avoid executing innocent people, robust trial defense and a lengthy appellate process is necessary.
3. Robust trial defense and lengthy appellate processes cost a tremendous amount of money.
4. Studies show that the death penalty has little to no effect on the rate of violent crime.
5. Spending a tremendous amount of money on something that has little to no societal benefit is fricking lunacy.

But, it helps to deter the type of crime that brought about the sentence.

I’m completely against a state implemented death penalty, but think, if we have it it should be much much swifter.

I don’t know what that makes me.

I’m lucky if I can get the First Circuit to rule on a writ within six months
