100 murders going free can kill 100 innocent people. Sometimes sacrifice is necessary, ask Jesus.

Same reason the army would take out 100 terrorists even if there was a hostage at the location they are bombing.

It has always interested me that when Voltaire proffered the idea in the 1740s he choose 2 innocents when Blackstone reiterated it just before Franklin he chose 10, then Franklin decided on 100.

I have often thought about this and never could come to a conclusion for myself.

While it may seem like a non-sequiter to many when it comes to our justuce system's ability to accurately determine guilt I always remember a discussion I had with one of my law school friends over lunch during the OJ case. I made the quip that OJ's money had really tilted the law in his favor, my friend a PD at the time disagreed and said he had merely leveled the playing field. This has always stuck with me not regarding the rich but regarding the poor. Even if the poor have excellent, passionate and not overextended council they can never hope to match the resources of the state when it comes to forensic science, investigators, experts and the like.

I think being poorer than true OT baller status and being charged with a capital crime would be like staring at the business end of a very large loaded gun.

This type of logic is next level presidential shite... not some random person off the street called upon to be on a jury. This logic is why America is the greatest country in the world.

Indeed.

I’ve watched very expensive attorneys beg judges for expert funding because their client is either out of money or, more commonly, have had their assets frozen. Yet the State will fly in experts from all over the country on whatever issue they happen to fancy.

Level playing fields are staggeringly rare in the criminal justice system.
