Not in Asia. Koreans and Chinese still hate the Japanese which is compounded by the Japanese apparently refusing to admit wrongdoing.

It's ridiculous to me as well. The Rape of Nanking was the worst atrocity during the war. I've been to the Nanking Mueseum, and it is utterly disgusting. IMO, we should have executed the entire Japanese Royal Family over it, save for the ones under 18 where various nations take them hostage for Japan to behave. The fact that Bush Sr went to Hirohito's funeral is pretty sick to me. The only reason to go was for our president to take a piss on his grave.

Pearl Harbor wasn't shite and proof that you are ignorant to what Japan did if you bring it up. At least it was a military base.

Hirohito didn't have a hand in the atrocities like Tojo did. Hence why Tojo was executed.

ETA: On second thought, Hirohito most likely should've held some blame for the atrocities being that he was the emperor.

They were absolutely brutal to the Chinese, Phillipinos etc. Tortured/experimented on American POWs. In some cases cannibalized American POWs. Yet Japan doesnt nearly have the same stigma as Nazi Germany

I have never ever heard that the Nazis were worse than the Japanese. The Japanese atrocities are very well publicized. My dad told me during WWII if given a choice his buddies would chose fight in Europe. The Japanese soldiers were considered complete savages. I can't imagine anyone thinking the Japanese weren't much worse.

I think in general the war in Europe gets a lot more attention than the pacific war.

The Japanese got a hard reset in 1945 that kind of wiped the slate clean

Mao just killed loads and loads of his own people, so I think that kind of changes peoples minds.

Because of WHO died.

Millions were murdered by the Bolsheviks in Russia, millions were murdered in China under Mao, you can find many examples of such brutality in history

However those victims don't get memorials and museums and movies and monuments nor are we told constantly to remember those victims. Those victims aren't used as a way to guilt people into supporting or opposing various policy/legislation

Anyone who wants to know how bad the Japanese were and is ok with reading some incredibly fricked up shite, look up Unit 731.its a national disgrace we gave asylum to that bastard.

Meh. We often look past such things when national security issues come up. Think how many Nazi scientists we recruited? I don't know much about th asylum if Hirohito, but I assume that was to quell the possibility of having to fight against radical Japanese guerrillas that would be angry at him being executed? Is that what happened?

I'm not saying that makes it okay, but there's a bit of a history with the US doing such things.

What? The US overlooking Unit 731s crimes was nothing about national security and all about getting the research.

Most WWII era Americans despised the Japanese for Pearl Harbor. Outside of that though, you're right that history has been kinder to them than the Nazi's. Perhaps it's because some feel we had pay back with the A-bombs. I'm sure there are others that will say it's because the Jews run the media.

If the Rape of Nanking happened today the reaction would be "someone needs to nuke those savages".

They got exactly that.
