Yes, everyone who buys a TSLA gets paid to do so. It is an indirect subsidy. Then there are all the government subsidies TSLA cashes in on while not actually producing anything except toys for rich people.
Read some of the speculation as to actual Model 3 sales if/when the subsidies disappear.

Hopefully they learned a valuable lesson. If anything they should be gifted one of the Elios when the company goes bankrupt.
It should be required to be shown at every parade or civic event as a reminder what happened.

No I'm trying to paint a picture of how shitty that company is.
If there were no subsidies, the company wouldn't and never would've existed.
If they want to try and make themselves look good and pay off a loan as a PR stunt, have at it, but that was more than likely a shitty business decision for an already poorly run business.
eta - Oh and Teslas loan was half the size of Nissans and almost 10% of Fords.

although you should be arguing for the return of horse and buggy if you want to wean off of oil and gas.
These cars are just little balls of hydrocarbons propelled by energy that is derived directly from hydrocarbons or devices that are nearly totally derived of hydrocarbons.

I don't mind Tesla as long as our government doesn't start mandating that people buy electric vehicles.
We should continue to develop new technologies but I don't think the government should subsidize any private businesses - oil, Tesla, corn etc.
I seriously doubt that I'll be replacing my truck with an electric vehicle in the next 25 years. I spend about $100 per month on gas so that doesn't really move the needle for me from a financial standpoint.

I don't think we will ever get off oil and gas completely. Too many other uses like plastics, chemicals, etc,. But I do think we can greatly reduce oil and gas (and coal) consumption for transportation and electricity generation.
