The biggest knock against Tesla is that they are the poster child for corporate welfare.

General Motors got a 51 Billion dollar bailout and the U.S. ending up losing 11.3 Billion on the deal in the end.

The government has provided bailouts and subsidies way larger than Tesla has received.

I've disagreed with every one of them. GM should have been allowed to fail

MIC drop.

Their Republican ideology/religion tells them they must attack any energy source that isn't derived from fossil fuels. Whether they like it or not, and they can mock it all they want to, but electric cars are coming. I remember when this ilk mocked and attacked hybrid cars, which are well established now.

Maybe in a hundred years, but I have my doubts.

Jesus, you party hacks are the problem with this country. You're hanging onto outdated ideology.

Tesla is a corporate welfare whore.

While true, has Tesla proved itself to be able to survive on its own at all? GM's history, where they're at currently, and other companies that approach the market from a similar position and sell similar products all show that GM or companies like GM are easily self sufficient.

Can the same be said for Tesla? Can you point to a time in Tesla's history where they were selling electric cars and making a profit? Can you point to a company not named Telsa that has done that?

For the record, I was 110% against GM getting a bailout.

GM failing would have made this country have a serious discussion about labor unions. They didn't fail because of lack of sales. It was because of pensions and having to pay some guy with a GED $48/per hr to work on an assembly line.

If Tesla gets big enough the United Auto Workers union will come for them too.

Wtf? GM began in a completely different generation with a completely different economy in a time when a flathead V8 was considered the future and a world without fossil fuels was fantasy fiction. Tesla is to 2017 and beyond as GM was to 1908 and beyond. Such an ignorant argument.

What industry isn't though, Roger?

The answer is there isn't one. If government bucks, regulation or legislation are to be provided and exploited, it's done without a second thought.

Defense. Oil. Auto. Banking. Health. Pharma. Education. Construction. Forestry. Engineering. Tech. Science. Natural Resource. Fishery. Agriculture. Charity. Religion. Politics. Entertainment. Insurance. Add others _____.

What does any of this have to do with the fact that there is literally shite tons of evidence that a company like GM can sell cars at a profit without government handouts and zero evidence that the same can be done for a company who only sells electric cars?

No, I did. Doesn’t make sense.

There is literally evidence that GM could not sell cars at a profit without government money.

Because of bad business practices, not because of the market itself.

GM was profitable before the bailouts, it is profitable after. Several other companies are targeting the same market with the same products and are profitable (Honda, Nissan, etc.).

Tesla cannot say the same. This is not hard to get.

Because of labor unions. Tesla doesn't have that problem yet but they will if they get big enough

Which TSLA crushed last month by firing a bunch of employees.

Which is probably the right thing to do. Since the employees can't build cars.

Then again, it's hardly their fault since Musk bought the wrong equipment and didn't any idea that the workers would need to be trained on the "innovative" methods being used.

All the first Model 3's went to employees and they are being instructed not to openly criticize them or allow others access that might bad reviews.

They are just firing the employees who talk of unionizing.
