I know it’s mid-August whenever this thread pops up.

It's your wife's birthday anyway...

And only the Auburn game, not like it's Bama.

You have two options.

A) suck it up and keep your mouth shut because your son is more important than a damn football game.

B) Man up and tell him you won’t be going and why.

So you mean to tell me even if this whole proposal thing was not going on....you wouldn't do something with her on her bday cause it would cause you to miss a game?

My wife is a big LSU fan as well. We always spend the weekend in Baton Rouge for the game that week.

I said that she wanted the proposal to be in front of both parents.

I can’t get over this. Is she going to want both sets of parents to be there when she has sex after the wedding.

The thing that bothers me about a wedding in the fall is the bride or her family gets upset that people are more concerned with the game than the wedding or reception.

If a girl truly wants it to be her day with her getting all the attention then she shouldn’t schedule it on a day that has strong competition. Whether people want to admit it or not, college football has some of the most loyal fans and following of any sport/art/entertainment/cultural event in the U.S. There is a reason 100,000 people will show up at the same time and place to watch the event. Any woman who believes that people should forgo their passion and interests in life for her wedding is selfish and narcissistic. Unless you’re my daughter, son or godchild, there’s a strong possibility I won’t attend.

Usually the bride ends up bitching that the guys are more interested in the game. Way to set yourself up for disappointment by scheduling at or around the same time as the game.

Lol. We both have great families but it’s weird as shite for all the parents to be there watching the proposal.

I want to know more about that as well.

Was the gf saying a generic "you know, I always thought it would be great to be publicly proposed to in front of my family"

Or was she being specific saying "when you propose our parents have to be there"

I don't think a woman can dictate how a proposal goes. A guy wanting to marry a woman should already have an idea if she is the type to want a private or more public proposal.

I know this is hard to imagine, but there are people out there who wouldn’t even think about.

We are big football fans, but zero of my friends are. Nor are my parents. I get asked to do things by friends or family all the time during football season, and it’s a total lightbulb when I say it’s game day. They’re always like “Oh yeaaaaaah I forget about football season”.

I think the % of women who are intentionally scheduling events in gamedays to be selfish and bitchy is likely low. There’s just a lot of people who don’t even think about sports.

Most people don’t revolve their lives around a college football team

My niece got married on the Nfl draft Saturday (the old NFL draft schedule). Then when my nephew got married he also got married on the Saturday of the Nfl draft. I used a little radio during the service.

You think that's bad?

My sister got married on the Pro Bowl in January...

Had to choose that day out of 364 other days in the year

Not sure how good of a parent I have been but I know one thing for sure. Both kids know not to get married on a Saturday when LSU is playing. My wife feels as strongly about this as I do.

It’s not hard to imagine for me. I know some people that don’t care about college football. If you live in a college town/city or nearby one, it would be hard for that person to not take that into consideration.

The amount of stories I’ve heard of people scheduling weddings on certain games is about 10. The amount of people I know that schedule it on the bye week is probably double that.

If neither party cares for college football and they don’t live in the south, then by all means have your wedding in the fall on whatever weekend you want. If you live in the south, it just comes with the territory. On home game days, I’ve traveled to baptist weddings in Texas with no alcohol or food because it was family. My family thanksgiving celebration host site used to solely be determined on whether the game was home or away.

I was always under the impression April to July was wedding season but I guess I was wrong.
