Because politicians brothers-in-law need jobs too.

Georgia is one of only three states that still have this mandate. Does LA have it too?

But it’s not illegal to do so. Tyson may just not want to sell you 3 chicken breasts as opposed to 3,000 lbs

we don't. we have them for the same reasons car makers can't sell their own cars.

Different scenarios. I can buy a car from the dealership & turn around & sell it to anyone. If you own a business you have to buy it directly from the distributors, even if another store is selling it for a lower price. It’s bs.

Why can’t stores order direct from the manufacturers?

The consumer can, and for cheaper than through distribution.

Alcohol laws are made by the state so each state is different. The 3 tiers started as a way to prevent one entity from being the producer, distributor, and retailer for their product. Outside of big guys who could afford their own distribution, it's mainly just beneficial for smaller producers.

Constellation, Gallo, Anheuser Busch, Miller Coors, diageo, etc could distribute in house if it were legal, but it's cheaper and more efficient to use a distributor. If the laws were to change, I would assume these big producers would just absorb their main distributors. Smaller producers would still need to outsource it though.

They are beneficial in some scenarios but they should not be required.

For example, they certainly help a craft brewery distribute their product more easily to more places. However, if that same craft brewery wants to drive their own beer across town and deliver it directly to the package liquor store they should be able to do so.

No, but I've bought one at a farmer's market.

Not many stores not named Total wine fit this bill though.

Elios Wine Warehouse sells their wine wayyyyyyy much cheaper than Rouses or Roberts sell theirs for.

then on top of that listed price I still get a 10% discount for being a loyal customer

Mine was dead. I think the Vietnamese market in the East still sells them live. I haven't purchased one there, though.

It's probably a pretty important account that does a lot of business. There's also a little more leeway with independent accounts vs chains.

IIRC it was part of the “compromise” in getting prohibition repealed.

A lot of the original post-prohibition distributors were bootleggers during prohibition.
