You missed this part:

quote:

It should be a choice, not mandatory.

I'm agreeing with you, but adding that it is still advantageous to use a distributor for most producers.

I completely agree that it shouldn't be mandatory. If you have the means to distribute at a large scale or just want to stay small and self distribute locally, you should be able to. And if you want a mix of both, that should be negotiated between you and the distributor, not prohibited by law.

Edit: you say most would want to self distribute, and I don't necessarily disagree, but I would bet after a certain level of growth, their desire to self distribute would change.

It actually makes life easier.

Could you imagine having to go to multiple different places to buy stuff in today's world?

Got to drive to the brewery for beer, drive to the tobacco farm for cigs, drive to the chicken plant for chicken, dairy farm for milk. You get the point. The distributors distribute product to the locations you shop at.

I was more being tongue in cheek as you can use the same methods to buy alcohol from a non registered brewer or distiller

But you're saying the distributor is the only entity that can bring the product to the retailer. That isn't true.

You should go with the argument that the established large scale distribution network is more efficient.

You obviously aren’t a business man.

Of course they want a distributor. Having a 3rd party do your dirty work saves you a shite load of money.

Stick to being a cop.

Not one single person in this thread has tried to make that argument

You made that hypothetical up all by yourself

Producer and retailer love it.

Producers sells it and doesn't have to deliver or stock. Retailer buys it and doesn't have to pick up or stock.

You said a ton... so you’re just talking about a few local beer breweries?

Got it. You’re a small thinker.

Those guys couldn’t afford the overhead to distribute their own product. Again, you’re clueless.
