The big boys get the added benefit of incentivizing the distributors to keep their product well stocked and pushed while making it harder for smaller breweries to get their product similar exposure.
Beer distribution is a different animal. It's basically as if Anheuser busch, et al owned the distributor. It's much easier for smaller producers on the wine and spirits side.

That's nuts.
This is fairly standard though.

eta-ATF will actually come in and check the bottles now and then for the proper stamps.
They even have an IR light or some such to tell if the bar is refilling bottles. ie-Reusing those with the proper tax stamp, filled from non stamped.
And they have to destroy the label on empty bottles.
This is fairly standard though.

Because the manufacturers dont want to deal with 100,000 little mom and pop gas stations and liquor stores
They would rather deal with just a handful of distributors
This.
For any manufacturer is several industries they save a lot of money of having their own workforce handling every single sale from first contact to close of the sales, order entry, fulfillment, and post order duties by having a rep/distribution network. I work for manufacturers representative agency and am so glad i only deal with distribution and not every contractor or end user.

I just want small breweries to have their chance to sell direct to stores and bars and not have to be involved in the politics of the distributor game.

Because politicians brothers-in-law need jobs too.
John McCain's wife was loaded because of the entire distribution scheme.

So at say Albertsons they probably have 300 different brands of alcohol and wine. Are you really saying that Albertsons should make 300 different orders to different manufacturers.

I hate to break it to you but many if not most brands of alcohol you see in stores are owned by same company. No other products in grocery stores need law enforced distribution schemes to work.

But, the market created that. Not politicians.

quote:bullshite.....a ton of manufacturers want to distribute their own product. I'm sorry AB doesn't want to but you know what....they would have a choice to use distributors.....why don't other manufacturers have the choose to self distribute?
Because the manufacturers dont want to deal with 100,000 little mom and pop gas stations and liquor stores
BTW...it is coming in LA.

Doesn’t Abita and Parish sell direct to stores and bars? I’m pretty sure Eliot’s buys direct. Maybe it’s because they are considered a wholesale warehouse. I’m not sure how that works.

Say what you want about the Democratic Party, that's two prominent members right there, making sure we all get our alcohol.

For the little guys, sure. It should be a choice, not mandatory.
But anyone who wants widescale distro will go with a distributor. Not sure even guys like parish want to self distribute with their expansion plans.
For local or even somewhat regional, it's doable, but you reach a point where it isn't.
To get into real stupid laws, until September 1st of this year, breweries in Texas can't sell beer to go. The ones that did before are classified as brewpubs as a loophole but that limits production caps.
