Why do the Mexicans get the blame for our drug crisis?

We are the consumers. We create demand. If there is no demand there is no market for these products.

If you open a burger restaurant and no one comes, your business closes. Same principle applies. Seems like we are shifting blame away from ourselves.

It's the federal governments fault. We only have a crisis because they outlawed safe alternatives.

I think when people say "Mexicans" it's just a euphonism for cartels at the border.

That’s certainly not what the politicians are claiming. And the sheep voters believe whatever they say.

From who? I don't blame Mexicans for anything.

We are fully to blame.

the politicians, who don't want to admit their abject failure and who want to line their pockets with "war on drugs" money

I guess this is one of those situations in which people live in two different realities depending on their feed.

I’ve never seen anyone blame Mexico for a drug crisis. I’ve seen most of the blame be placed on pharmaceutical companies.

I think a lot of the crime close to the border can be traced back to Mexican cartels.

Speak for yourself. I only buy drugs that are made in the USA. It's why I can't see out of my left eye and haven't had an appetite in 12 years.

Temptation. If the supply isn't there, it's literally impossible to get. But they aren't to blame. Weak minded people want it.

If there are no burgers in the world, guess what no burgers will be eaten

People should be allowed to do all the drugs they want IMO as long as they don't harm others and not a single tax dollar is spent on them including health care if they OD or want to go to rehab

Everyone knows the risk by now especially with it all being fentanyl-based

Society would eventually end up stronger just as in nature when the weakest get culled. Let Darwin rule

This is an interesting point and one I've tried to figure out repeatedly myself. If we keep cutting the head off the snake, it just regrows.

30 years ago there was a tragic railway accident outside DC and the industry instituted a very effective anti-drug/alcohol system designed to cut demand from active personnel. Seems to me that testing and bans for folks involved in transportation, finance, health, law, food, construction, trades, etc... could be a very effective way to cut demand rather than supply. Cutting supply only raises prices and brings in new providers.

The Mexicans allow the burger producers to flourish.

Yep, no one would be using Fentanyl if there were legal alternatives.

“See, if you look at the drug war from a purely economic point of view, the role of the government is to protect the drug cartel. That's literally true.” - Milton Friedman

If we didn’t consume the burgers there would be no business for the burger cartels.

Could have something to do with the cartels and much of the drug trade originating down there.

There would be no supply without a market.

Wherever there is a demand, legal or otherwise you'll have suppliers if the reward is high enough.

You cannot ban things people love. Guns, booze, drugs.

Take it from me, it’s always the hos fault and never the Johns. Always blame the Ho.
