If you go to a good place with someone who knows what they're doing, chances are you will. Substitute the seaweed for some rice paper and start with the basics.
People are acting like it's some wild cuisine. It's fish and rice.

Most of the people I've encountered that don't like sushi haven't been to a good sushi restaurant.
That's why I say always try things twice. If you don't like something the first time there is always a chance that you had it prepared poorly. Judge it based off the good, not the bad.

You don't have to go.
OR
You can start a thread on the OT and bitch about making the choice to go.

That was my first experience. Tried it once in college, hated it. Tried it again a few years later at a good restaurant with someone who knew what they were doing and I've been hooked ever since.

It's our go to for Sunday evening. It's not a heavy meal and three of us order at will off of the menu and get out of there for under $60. I love Sushi Sunday.

So you too will have fish breath

Not the whining about having to order off a sushi menu once a year.

I've never been to a sushi place that doesn't have other menu items other than sushi.
Just order some chicken fried rice or a steak baw.

My original point was how sushi eaters always want everyone else to eat sushi (see thread title). You folks have proven my point for me beautifully.

Try actually reading the OP: he's upset that she asked for sushi for her birthday.
I did, and I don't think the OP would have started the thread over a once a year request, which is kind of the point.
Any given food is going to have people who dislike it, some more than others. Sushi has to be on the high end of that scale, at least here in the US. Negative reactions to it's suggestion should be expected, and making judgments about people because they dislike a particular food, screams "a-hole" in my opinion.
Posted on 12/2/16 at 11:11 am to KCMIZSEC
Looking down on people for not liking the food you like is asinine. It's like people who look down on you for your music taste.
It's ok for people to have opinions and personal preferences.
It's not OK to bitch about someone wanting to eat their favorite food on their birthday.
Therefore, OP is acting like a self-entitled prick.
Notice how I said 'acting like' and not that you are. I don't know you, I can only have my own judgment about your actions.

It was one example used to illustrate the point I was making in the title of my thread. Everyone here who bashed me for it has further proven that point. Y'all are freakishly cult-like with your devotion to the shite. That said I don't look down on people who eat bait.

A lot of people think sushi is some type of exotic or sophisticated dish. So they think if they eat sushi, talk about eating sushi, love sushi, etc., it somehow makes them more cultured and sophisticated. That's my explanation.

So the birthday girl told the office she wanted to eat at a sushi restaurant for her birthday, and then directly told you that you "had" to order sushi and only sushi because it was her birthday?
How is someone trying to force you to eat sushi? Your original point was stupid and that's why you're getting thrashed.

When you bash something, people defend it.
Crazy how that works.

I used the forcing as hyperbole. Obviously nobody is holding a gun to my head.
