Why do some people like gold teeth or grillz?

I was joking around with a black chick at the takeout window at BK and when she laughed, she had a mouthful of gold teeth. Is it a culcha thing? I’ve also seen white people with gold and silver teeth, but not very often. Just wondering why people think its cool.
