I live way out and it's nice to have one near me.

Glad they added self check out since they're never going to have more than one person working at a time.

I love going to the Dollar General by my work place to get my sodium fix.

I always take pictures of the item prices so they don't overcharge me at the register due to their understaffing of employees to get the stock and updated prices on the shelves.

But the truth is these days going into a small country town it’s mainly obese welfare living depressing people.

Do not try to pop this bubble. You'll be here all day. Already won the argument only to have people just say the data was made to be intentionally bad by the educated urban elite cabal to make rural folks look bad.

People like to get all nostalgic and whatnot about mom and pops grocery stores, but smalltown mom and pops grocery stores were typically expensive as shite.

That's because everything is about money nowadays. It's nostalgic because most of those country stores had the elders all sitting down shooting the shite while drinking coffee, homemade pies, and friendly people. Whereas DG is a snot nosed employee who won't last more than a few months, doesn't care about the customers, and has no pride. Sure you'll spend $20 at mom and pop when at DG you'd have spent $15, I agree. I'll always pay more to shop at a place that values it's customers though.

As far as comments about country people, I agree. It's easy to live in the country nowadays. Got a close friend who lives in heaven on 200 acres. Dude can't fix anything, knows nothing at all about anything handy man, kids stay inside all day on screens. Great dude though.

I was in the "not in my neck of the woods" camp before ours got here. But now I love it, so nice not to have to run into town for one little thing. Any anything that keeps my wife out of Walmart is a good thing.

I'd love to know what the DG shrink numbers are like around the country in these stores that have a total of like 3 employees. I love how they have a 'who cares, we'll just price that in attitude'.

I really don't pay attention to what people say or think. I shop where I want for whatever reason I want and if anyone has a problem with it they can kiss my arse.

The one near me is always dirty AF with boxes and crates full of shite stacked in the isles. Full of obese, tattooed trash balls, too.

people hate dollar general because they put the family owned stores (community institutions) out of business.

People that don't live there complain about Mom & Pop shops going out of buisiness. But those families didn't have economies of scale and charged much higher prices. I was shocked when my wife first took me into the local hardware store in her small La town. They sold furniture, appliances etc but at hundreds of $ higher than HD or Lowe's. But we had to register there because some locals wouldn't shop anywhere else and it was also a status thing. Lone grocery store had small selection and outrageous prices too.

I live in BFE, but do have a DG about 5 minutes away.
I'd like to shop there more, but the prices are much higher than typical grocery stores not named Publix.
It's mostly all junk foods there.
It's often out of stock of many items.
The aisles are typically cluttered.
The self check out line is often not working.

Are the prices really that much better? Even better than Walmart? I've been in a few and it always seems like they stock overstocks from other stores or off brand crap. The store are always a mess. I hate Walmart but I'd choose it over DG any day.
I agree but Walmart is normally further away than the neighborhood DG and you can get in and out of a DG in a few mins.

Walmart is a money and time pit.

Rest of my fam lives on a compound in the small town I grew up in. Like 45 min to the nearest city or HEB.

A dollar general got put in like 8 miles down the road and they shop there frequently.

I do not shop there because I live in Dallas and have options. Anybody hating on people for shopping there based on the reasoning i mentioned above is a moron.

Its a small town. That snot nosed employee is likely the grandkid of one of those elders (unless you think DG imports them in from the Big City). If he isn't friendly, doesn't care about the customers, and has no pride, maybe those elders should've raised him better rather than sitting around eating pies and drinking coffee.

For po' folks living in the boonies, especially with gas prices these days, the Dollar General is a blessing. Don't understand why so many elitists try to demonize the Dollar General. Prices are good, and it helps cut down on "food deserts," another elitist talking point. Dollar General has plenty of frozen vegetables with just as much nutrients as fresh vegetables if "access for fresh vegetables" is someone's big kick. I would take a bullet for the Dollar General. I love that frigging place!!!!!

My local DG has fresh fruit and veggies.

I go to DG all the time for meds… good supply and decent prices, and better yet ZERO crowds….
