Why do people use "right" at end of sentences?

If you say "right" at end of a question that's fine. IE: You're going to game tonight right? But seems like more and more people use "right" all over the place. IE: We're not going to be open tomorrow right.
Drives me crazy.

They are asking for confirmation of their assumption?

Same ones who start the sentence with “So…”
Right?
Right?

If that is something that truly and deeply bothers you the most then you live an incredibly blessed life, right?

Billy Napier does this all the time and it pisses me off. Makes whatever he is saying come out with a lot less confidence.

Also the same people who ramble on trying to sell their point on a subject.

not nearly as bad as the ones who start sentiences with "Like I said - blah blah - - - "
Worked with a guy once (really a good engineer) but drove me crazy with EVERY time he stated to say something he started with "Like I said" - usually came out as 'lighkahsed'

It seems like liberal journalism types do it a lot. It’s a technique they use to goad you into agreement even if it’s something you disagree with. I hear it a lot on NPR.

Can we first get rid of literally and like over usage?

So
You know
Right
Umm
All should be avoided, anyone who uses them is suspect, right?

Former U.S. Senator Richard Shelby speaks this way.
Was always a bit of a challenge to have a conversation with him because when he stopped speaking you had to decide whether to proceed with what you wanted to say or validate what he just said. Always got better the longer you spoke to him.

The 21st century insecure individual is in constant need of affirmation. So much so, that they don't even realize it.
That is because we live in a liquid age. There are no constants, no standards, no norms to indicate that we are doing what we are supposed to be doing. We have no idea what is good or right.
