I doubt she hit up many "meat and three" places, although I could see Vicky getting down on some mac and cheese.

San Antonio is a very casual city.

I like it.

I would argue south louisiana is far more materialistic than most of the country

When people say "Dallas", they usually are referring to the general area since most people do not live in Dallas. You can pick whatever type town you want in the general area.

Yes but anything east of Grapevine is pretty much Dallas. Same exact vibe.

the only semi nice clothing you see exists in places with abundant materialism. The rich areas where everybody is trying to out compete each other.

Seems like there might be a bit of a life lesson in there for ya.

Depends on what crowds you're running with.

Certainly pockets of dallas or houston style materialism but most people are too poor to participate.

I think OP is getting at that people these days are only dressing up to go to "high end" places or where other people are all dressed up (whatever that means to you). Places like miami, dallas, NYC, LA.

I don't think the really anyone flying into nola is packing their best stuff to fit in with the local dresscode.

I get the exact opposite impression in DFW. I go to a restaurant in Richardson, Frisco or Plano and everyone is fully dressed up, using valet for their sports car that they’ll owe money on for a decade. I go out in Southlake and everything is casual as can be and people are parking their own SUVs and Camrys. I know people with family names on university buildings and they don’t dress fancy or drive luxury vehicles.

You have no idea if that’s true or not

I know people with names on university building that live in $10MM+ primary residences, have multiple vehicles, golf memberships, and vacation homes. What’s your point?

Now what about Preston hollow and the park cities? I am pretty sure they dress nice and are far richer than the southlake crowd.

The wife grew up in HP. We go a few times a year. It’s changed a lot over the last 20 years though. Lots of history being town down to make room for flaunting but still a large historical preservation community, just not a successful one.
Goes back to e/w of Grapevine thing. Westlake is on that level and might be the most casual place on Earth.

My dallas cousins are more Catholic north Dallas / private school families but one of my (old) aunts did marry into a pretty loaded old money HP family so they lived there and gave the house to one of their children. I always got the impression my aunt seemed to be more interested in the social climbing / materialism stuff than him, which makes sense, as he was probably super loaded growing up and so he is just overall a really nice and humble guy.

With that said, it seems that nobody in my family would ever consider moving to southlake, and I think there is a reason for it. It’s probably how I see the town of Boerne.

Working on the land, you need clothes for protection.

Shorts, flip flops and a tee shirt aint going to cut it.

The old adage is true; you can't judge a book by its cover, but we all thinslice.

That said, a good portion of the OT thinks they can judge the size of a guy's manhood by the vehicle he drives, so IDK.

Southlake, Westlake, half of collyville, and north Keller are the only places in the metro where people actually have space without living way out in the country. Maybe that creates a sense of community or draws a certain crowd. You occasionally see a show-off but the last time I saw a supercar was a month ago in Carrollton.

Why are we in a time in society when people don't want to look presentable?

And I can't say much because it seems like I have let my standards drop. Casual for me used to be a collared shirt and pants... chinos or if it was really casual.. jeans. When I was a kid my mom used to tell us that we had to be "presentable" and there were rules to that shite. And it just kind of stuck, but now, during the day I will go places with a tshirt and some type of sports pants.

But lets take a wake/funeral. The wake you can dress more casual. dress shirt, dress pants.. But at funerals it was a tie and jacket. People now stop by a wake coming home from work, in their work clothes. No one wears their Sunday's finest anymore. And how you dress impacts your attitude and how you feel about yourself. We need higher standards.

What is your definition of “dress nice”.
Are we talking tuxedos, semi formal, smart casual, or business casual?

I suppose. I've pretty much exclusively lived in the top earning zip codes in Louisiana.
