I would hate a 1.5 hour commute each way. You're basically giving up 3 hours a day of your life to live there

Seems like a good time to read a book, listen to music or a podcast, Tigerdroppings, or just general internet. I know I probably spend well over 3 hours/day doing all that.

It’s 7-0 in the Iron Bowl and Alabama is losing. I’d say I’m pretty happy.

It’s definitely a different mentality. I wouldn’t say people are “angry”, but they aren’t as nice as people in the south.

I just think people in the northeast don’t deal with bullshite with as much patience as people in the south. It’s almost admirable how blunt they can be.

I don’t know, Roger. You seem to be pretty on edge lately. Maybe Alaska is not as relaxing as you think.

Is there really nothing to do in other places?

I live in Birmingham, AL and have plenty to do. I can afford to take my family to NYC or SF to do those things if I want.

Seems like there's better opportunities to build a resume out there. I get that.

But I also love my 15 minute commute, 4 bedroom house for $1500/month, and comfy budget on a modest salary.

Everyone values location differently than everyone else. For some people it’s the ocean. For some it’s the mountains. For some it’s desert air.

If I lived in B’ham I’d be snorting 8 balls of Prozac not to take a couple razor blades to the wrists in a warm bathtub.

Not necessarily specific to your example, however the majority of people who do it were people who 1: bought further out before the economic collapse and aren't able to get what they want out of their house still to this day. 2: are victims of white flight. 3: don't care.

Is this a brag? I have a 5 bedroom, 3 full bath, 2 car garage with a $600/month mortgage ITP Atlanta.
