I'm an atheist, and I say Merry Christmas like a motherfricker all over town.

It's funny that a few goofy Christians think they are pissing off Jews and Muslims and Buddhists, etc. when they say Merry Christmas. It's no more upsetting to a rational person than Happy Birthday. If they are nuts, well, that's how we get wars and such.

I hope all you people realize that "Happy Holidays" and "Season's Greetings" have been standard Christmas salutations for decades. They have been on Christmas cards, advertisements, billboards, TV commercials, etc. for as long as I have been alive--long before Fox News existed. Hell, long before the Fox Network existed.

Nobody seemed to ever give a shite what greeting anyone used until Bill O'Reilly and people like him started inventing reasons to feel persecuted.

I've always said "Happy Holidays" 1). To be different; and 2). Because I think "Season's Greetings" sounds dumb; and 3). Because frick You, that's why.

I find that most individuals don't get offended by the words "Merry Christmas."

Corporations and their HR departments are the biggest offenders and pussies for political "incorrectness."

Simply reply "These are Holy days indeed" what I always find funny is when PC's try to say either happy holidays or merry x-mas they are still acknowledging the Lord Jesus Christ. Holidays is a word derived from haliday which replaced haligdaeg which is a combined word from old English of halig which means holy and daeg which means day. So next time someone says happy holidays just simply reply these are holy days indeed. Merry Christmas and happy holidays!

I really wouldn't care if someone found it offensive. I would say it regardless. It's a way to be nice to someone

No one gets offended actually. They ACT like they are offended so they can say they are the suffering ones.

Never met anyone that claimed to be offended. If I do I might just punch them in the face and asked them if they feel any better.

It's not offensive, but I work with Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, and non-religious people. It doesn't make sense for me to tell the Jews "Merry Christmas" since it means nothing to them, so I tell them happy holidays. They tell people who do observe Christmas "Merry Christmas" though. It's just a matter of understanding other people and choosing the appropriate phrase for what they believe and practice. Imagine that, using social intelligence instead of stubbornly sticking to one phrase.

actually I think everyone knows "happy holidays" includes Christmas, but the point of using the general phrase is that it acknowledges other religious holidays besides Christmas that occur this time of year. It's meant to be inclusive and not just specifically about the Christian holiday.

In the Bible Belt, it makes less sense to be general since Christianity dominates those areas. But in a metropolitan city like NYC, it makes sense to be general.

Your subject is too general. "Some" people find it offensive which is why the PC world has moved to "Happy Holidays."

Some people are too picky about subject titles. Am I doing it right?
