Why do people feel the need to video everything now?

It's starting to really annoy me. Anytime anything happens, everyone has to pull out their phone and start taking video. If there's a fight, there will be 30 videos offering better angles and views than the super bowl.
Are these the same people that would never step in to help a friend or break it up? I'm assuming so.
Any confrontation now and people immediately pull the phones out. The videos of the guys harassing the cops and acting like total asshats kinda got me going.

In some situations, don't you want this?

I'm sure that guy that got tea bagged a few years ago is totally OK with people whipping out (no pun intended) camera phones.

I've actually tried to make a note of videoing/taking pics a lot less. Go to a concert and half the people are watching it via their phone screen.

I decided that I'd rather just take a few pics or videos and then leave my phone in my pocket the rest of the time and experience it.

You gotta make the next viral video so you can live large on youtube views.

It is kind of annoying. My buddy was a dancing fool the other night, I wanted to record it but just let it go. It's like you can't let loose without someone embarrassing you with a video anymore.

If I was him I would rather wake up unaware that anything happened, not with the entire country watching it.

The only thing I take pictures/video of are my kids. It never even crosses my mind to pull out my phone when out and about.

Same here. I realized that of all the concerts I've been to and took pics/video, not a single time have I ever gone back and watched them.

I agree with the general point you're making but the LSU guy that got bagged actually left school (not sure if he came back) and moved back to Houston. There was an interesting ESPN article about the aftermath for him and his assailant. If it hadn't been on video he would have never known it happened to him.

I agree about the concerts though. Put your damn phone up and experience the show.

funny I was thinking about this the other day when I was at the Saints game. It was amazing how many people in front of me all had their phones out filming the players run onto the field. Why can't anyone just enjoy themselves anymore without their phone? People pay money to see something live then they spend a large majority of the time watching it through their 4" phone screen.

Everyone wants to have the next viral video. It's absurd. Anytime you go to a concert this is all you'll see now:

Everyone is worried about replaying the moment on youtube later instead of actually experiencing the moment.

Wait, how is it not a good thing to have video footage of criminal activity??? Video footage is often times THE best evidence, as a defendant cannot deny what is shown.

And maybe those people recording games and events just want to show their friends and family what they experienced? I honestly don't know a single person who ever posted on youtube
