True...but then this shows a lack of understanding of the burden of proof though, doesn't it?

Look...I'm not forcing anyone to do anything and you are, of course, free to believe in whatever you'd like. But...when a person makes an assertion of the existence of a thing and they are attempting to convince someone else who is on the fence about it, the burden of proof is on the person making the assertion.

I'm not saying "I know gods don't exist." I'm saying "Can you prove to me this thing you say YOU think exists actually does?"

See the difference?

Then you have not spent much time watching video from School Board meetings from across the country as religious activists attempt to remove various parts of evolutionary science from elementary and secondary education requirements. The line usually goes something like, "If we evolved from monkeys, why are there STILL MONKEYS?!?" Followed closely by only "Evolution is just a theory!" while completely not understanding what a scientific theory actually is.

Oh, most smart professional creationists won't say this out loud, but the folks who follow them who are not as bright absolutely will.

You can't prove Zeus doesn't exist either. But, I'm not going to pretend that the likelihood that he does carries the same weight as the likelihood that he doesn't. Just because you can't prove something doesn't exist, doesn't mean you have to accept it as a realistic possibility.

We are devolving, imo.

Turtles with the long necks on Galapagos island have evolved. The shorter necks died out, bc they couldn't reach food.

Animals do not evolve, populations do.

I would say that I am a 5. I am skeptical that there is some sort of higher power. I do not believe that if there is a higher power then it is what religion claims it to be. I reject Christianity/religion in general.

Not mutually exclusive. How do we know God didn't start us down the path of evolution.

quote:

why are humans not still evolving?

For one, it takes millions of years for one species to evolve into another and we simply haven't been around that long. For another, you could argue that humans are definitely evolving. Look at the world today compared to just 200 years ago. The advancement is astonishing.

Also, while your at it go frick one and see if your DNA is compatible

Chimp's share 96% of the human genome. This is the exact reason that we call them our closest living ancestor.

quote:

A watermelon is 98% water. The human body is 60% water. Does that mean we are part watermelon, too

This is the most asinine thing I've ever read

Because Alabama education. We barely even covered evolution when I was in middle school.

shite some of the science textbooks for public schools in Alabama have a label essentially saying “evolution is a theory and shouldn’t be taken as a fact”. Absolutely pathetic that this happens. That and they don’t know what a theory is in science.

At least the catholic schools teach evolution far better then any public school.

The ridiculous thing is that people don't believe that the two can coexist. I'm a scientist by profession, and a practicing catholic. Why the hell it's so difficult to believe that evolution could be a part of some intelligent design has always escaped me.

Then again, I'm talking about people who take Genesis literally, and believe that the universe was formed in 6 days and that we all came from 2 people. Hell, if that were true, can you imagine the all-powerful and perfect beings that Adam and Eve must have to been if we are their inbred descendants?

I don’t think a lot of Catholics living in the US realize that the church doesn’t disapprove of evolution or the Big Bang (brought up by a catholic monk even).

Not only that but also Noah’s ark saying the whole world’s population was reduced to a small family and one of every species on the planet but somehow managed to expand to millions and billions after a few thousand years.

Wow! They look similar to a human so we must have come from them...LOL If you truly believe that shite then why has no other primate in history developed logic, a conscience, a pull towards a higher power, and language. Also, why are humans not still evolving?

Also, while your at it go frick one and see if your DNA is compatible. God made each animal and man to only be able to procreate with its own kind.

This is seriously one of my favorite posts of all time. But only if he's actually serious and not being sarcastic.

I’d say it’s a good representation of what most anti-evolutionists are like. They’re criticizing something they have zero clue about.

We actually don’t know for sure if humans and chimps can actually produce offspring with each other. There’s way too many ethical concerns associated with actually testing it,

so at what point in the bible are things even remotely true?
You tell me Adam and Eve dind't happen, Noah's Ark didn't happen, Moses did not live to be 120, Goliath was probably 6' at best, not 9' tall, Jonah was not swallowed by a whale, Jesus was not a magician, Santa Claus isn't real, my parents snuck money under my pillow when i lost teeth.......

Good point. Not to mention that two of every animal were supposedly included on this boat. So one of two things happened: a) the ark was astronomical in size, since there are an estimated 6.5 million land species; or b) there was a small number of representative species included, and the rest have evolved from those species.
