re: Why do people act like going to the beach is fun?

The beach is fantastic when it is 8 minutes away and not a destination. We spent 45 minutes there watching the sun set yesterday evening and headed home. I guess when it is your vacation it's a lot like a buffet - you have to gorge yourself to "get your money's worth".

Much the same way that people like you act like it's not? Idk...it's weird.

Rent chairs and umbrellas, bring towels, snacks, drinks, and a few toys for the kids. Don’t go to one of the over populated condo areas of Orange beach. It’s much more enjoyable in the manner I just stated.

Just because you are fat, overweight, have cardio issues from walking in the sand and miserable does not mean that everybody else that goes to the beach is the same as you.

Renting cabins, lake houses, beach condos or airfare for 4 is expensive. I guess it would be cheaper to go in with a bunch of people on a bigger house to cut costs but that seems more like a circu than a vacation.
Its not.
I can rent a whole arse lake house in Broken Bow or up in the Ozarks for half the price of a Condo in Orange Beach

Waves. I absolutely love getting tumbled under them, and battling waves. We would go and we'd just head in. No fear. No matter how old I was. Really does teaches a young boy lots of lessons.
Yes the rest to get to that point sux nowadays, but yeah that is a great reason once there.

I would hate the beach if that is the way vacationed there
I rent a house on the beach. Go for a swim whenever I want, crush a lobster roll from a food truck down the street, nap while watching LSU baseball while the women shop in Seaside, and get up and cook while listening to Sublime or a good ole Grateful Dead show. Good living at the beach but I would never do it if I had to stay in a high rise condo. F that.

Through loose sand. Sunscreen and sand sticking to sunscreen. I hate beaches. I live in a lake house.

The beach is boring as hell. Give me the mountains with hiking trails and beautiful scenery.

I’m a beach guy.
I’ll pay the price for condo, chairs and umbrella for a few days of relaxation.
And then the assholes with giant bluetooth speakers and rap show up.

The last time I was at the beach in the Destin area, anytime I would go out to the actual beach I'd be met with 3-5 competing bro country DJs with Bluetooth speakers.
So annoying

I hate the beach unless there are mountains surrounding it I can escape to.
I get bored within an hour just hanging out in the sand, heat and masses of humanity.

Women lay out and tan, kids play...men are generally the ones carrying all the shite down there for both. After we get to the beach, there's really nothing for us to do except wait for the wife or kids to get tired and then we haul the stuff back.
There's many better vacations that everyone can enjoy.

The problem is that it has become absurdly expensive to vacation in areas with nice, quiet beaches.
This. By a mile. I'm out on the beach trip with other groups set up 10 ft away blairing their music
My best beach trip was just me and my girlfriend (now wife) a few months after the BP oil spill. We stayed in Perdido Key and went to Johnson Beach and paid the $10 entry fee. Drove half way down and took out two beach chairs and an umbrella and didn't have anyone else set up within 300 yards of us.
A nice beach trip during prime season can approach a trip to Europe cost wise.

I can do all of those things elsewhere without the hassle of being at a crowded gulf beach.
I get the appeal of going once a decade or something, but not as an annual trip.

It’s pretty meh if you live in the state of Florida and you’ve been to the beach 10,000 times before. I guess it’s fun if you’re from Idaho or something and have never been to the beach before.
I guess this can be true if you grew up by the beach, human nature to not appreciate it as much, like with anything else. I moved here 10 years ago, live a mile from the beach now and go constantly. If nothing else just to sit for an hour during sunset after work. There’s no better way to decompress after a long day. I can’t imagine myself ever getting tired of it. NB4 name checks out

So do I, but I love the beach, worst conundrum ever.
To me, the beach is the most relaxing vacation. You sit, drink, look and other moms, get in the water, sit, drink, look at other moms, get in the the water… rinse and repeat.
